Default Ripped Top! (w/ pics)

So, I walk out to my car after a business dinner last night and am stoked to drop the top and enjoy the cool weather that has rolled into Phoenix as of late.

I get in, unhook the latches and drop the top..........it sticks about 3/4 the way down and then retracts after a second pause. Concerned, I raise the top back up and notice that one of the latches was not secured. As I latch it back, I notice a large L shaped tear in the top!

I was livid the rest of the drive home.

I decided to take my S to the dealer for its first oil change (3800 miles) and see what they could do about the top as well. I show the first guy and he grabs his manager. The manager asks "This has been cut. What did you set on top of it?" I spent like 10 minutes convincing him the latch did it. He kept saying " I have never seen that happen before".

They said they needed to talk to some other manager and will call me. About two hours later, I get a voicemail. The oil is changed and they are going replace the top under warranty! Mad props to Tempe Honda for doing me right.

Just have to wait a week for the new top to come in. Nice.

Wow, I have never seen something like that before. How exactly did the latch go through the top? Glad to see they are replacing it under warrenty for you. Great dealership!

The center bar doesn't retract all the way and it causes the top to "stick" just as it starts to clear the hoops. When there is enough pressure between this bar and the backs of the latches it cuts the top and forces the middle bar back far enough to clear.

IF YOU KNOW THERE IS AN ISSUE you can stop just before that point and push the bar back down. If you don't know there is an issue, as I didn't, then it sticks, pops and goes the rest of the way down.

Mine cut the top on both sides and broke the passenger side latch. My passenger side latch would not stay up when retracting the top.

HondaCare at first said they'd never seen this before but did end up replacing it. They also made a big point to tell me that they wouldn't be covering any future engine damage because I was running a CAI. They also said they "trolled" S2ki looking for signs of abuse. A word to the wise replace all personal data on your profiles and change your log in names to something non identifying as I did.
