Smile Non-Political Check List

OK, with the new rules, what are the topics that can no longer be discussed on the Vintage Forum due to possible political content

Full Disclosure: This thread is by no means intended to DISCUSS any topic that is added to this thread. It's only meant to CLEARLY ENUMERATE (for the assistance of the mods) topics that will NOT (under any circumstance) be allowed

OK, I'll start

* Mom and Apple Pie
* The colors Red, White & Blue
* The occupants of any Federal Buildings in Washington DC
* Former Presidents, Former First Ladies, Former First Children, Former First Pets

OK, you get the idea Pile on and help Chazmo and MsPerky!

The problem is that this forum is a community, not a topic. It's fine to say that stuff that is off-topic shouldn't be in (for instance) Under The Hood or Racing And Competition, but there is nothing "on-topic" for Vintage (except maybe aches, pains, and exchanging recommendations for drug prescriptions).

I thought the forum was reasonably self-moderated.

Mike,

There are some people that I rarely agree with, and you're one of them. But to stifle comment and discussion, and those rare times when we do agree (or at least have a spirited discussion) is sad.

Look at it this way.... we're all standing on our soapbox on the courthouse steps solving all the problems of the world.

We haven't been stifled just moved from the steps to the park.
And they let you food fight in the park.

I won't add to the list. This thread might disappear. I will say I'm very disappointed in the decision.
Mike's right when he says this is a community and not a topic. This is a critical time for our country and the world and I felt a little better because I was able to come here and be a small part of a community that looked at these issues in a thoughtful and intelligent manner. It gave me a better perspective than I get in my daily dealings with people.
After having a look at it, I doubt that I'll be spending any time on the politics forum at sa2ki. Thanks anyway.
Somebody suggested that we might have a vote or possibly a "sub" forum, but I guess you didn't think that was a good idea. If the majority of poeple are happy with the decision, then so be it.

I didn't plan to respond to this, but after thinking about it, decided to throw in my two cents. I'm very sad that we've now had to start censoring topics in Vintage. One of the points of Vintage was having a forum where no topics were off limits because we could all be ladies and gentlemen, discuss things freely and at the end of the day have behaved ourselves with dignity. Unfortunately, flames erupted, people began to post in a manner that was rude and sometimes even crude. I can only hope that the Vintage Forum will not become over-moderated and over-censored and that we can find enough topics to discuss without political overtones and keep the forum in the way that it was intended in the first place. By the way, despite my conservative choices in life, I totally abhor censorship, however, I also realize that I agreed to certain things when I joined this Club and therefore, will abide by its rules without being overly vocal about things I do not like.

^ Well, I got some dissent and some agreement. I think it was pretty evenly split. But ultimately, it was my decision with Chaz's support. I hope people will still frequent Vintage. I think the forum offers alot outside of politics. But neither Chaz or I has any control over that. To be determined...

^^ I belong to another club that over-moderates, bans political matters, etc. and I will not pay dues again or renew my membership. It is my opinion that if people cannot behave enough to discuss things, then I don't need to frequent that forum and as others have aptly pointed out, we always have the choice to not post and add fuel to a fire.
I think we've all learned by this point in our lives that censorship/banning, etc. simply leads to more of the same in other areas.
