Post Synthetic oil change....WOW!

I finally changed my oil to synthetic today (Mobil-1 5W-30) In the past I couldn't justify spending twice as much for an oil change for something that lubricates just the same and gets drained out and refilled a few months down the road. The dealer wanted $65 and most quick lube places want around $50 plus tax for synthetic. I stumbled across the quick lube/tire service center in the back of Walmart of all places and asked them about their pricing. $20 for regular and $30 for synthetic. This is a full service that includes 5 quarts of any oil they stock, fram extra guard gold oil filter, window washing, topping off all fluids, carpet vacuuming and tire check. They really impressed me with their service by being very fast yet careful and respectful. They used paper floor mats, put fresh gloves on before entering and driving my car ect. ect. They even gave me the extra 1/2 full bottle of oil in a plastic bag for future top offs. They got it all done in about 15 minutes and they were pretty busy with a lot of cars. My car has been running strong with the cooler weather lately but it really woke up after the oil change. My car seems to really like synthetic oil because it seems to have regained some lost horsepower somewhere. Maybe it's all in my head but the responsiveness and pull feels substantially better than before. If you haven't switched to synthetic give it a shot for the Holidays!!!!!!! -T-

I was talking the 1/4 mile NOT THE 1/8TH.

It was great seeing you and your friend last night. You missed a great show in Orando today. The Perfromance Racing Industry convention. 3500 vendors. It was great. Cool stuff.

How many miles on your car? And how often were you changing the oil before?

Sometimes it can be a bad thing to switch to synthetic after running "dino" oil for a long time. Synthetics tend to clean better, which can remove deposits around seals. The deposits sometimes are plugging gaps that formed over time in the seal. Once they are gone, you can develop oil leaks.

I've experienced that personally on one of my previous cars.

Watch for oil stains in your garage and for any increase in oil consumption. Unfortunately, once the cleaning is done, it can't be undone. The leaking seal will have to be replaced.

If you were regularly changing your oil at 3000mile intervals and you have less than 50K on your car, you are probably OK. The higher the milage and longer the interval between oil changes increases your chance of leakage.

Get rid of the Fram oil filter....I've seen some pretty nasty things with them.

I suggest either OEM or K&N.

One night before my car died, while driving normally ( I know impossible in the S) I split my Fram gasket on the filter and lost 2 quarts of oil.
I stopped immiediately. Fixed the problem. Needless to say that was the start of motor damage and that is why I am waiting for a new rotating assembly. Which I have been told is being shipped and should be hear mid Dec.

My two cents, Mobil 1 at walmart around 20 bucks, OEM filters on line-less than 7 bucks. I buy the oil filters in bulk to save one shipping. The great thing about the S is you don't have to jack up the car to change the oil.
