A car for five years
OK - against my better judgement - a thread for MarkB and Rich.....
I'm contemplating some ventures that will tie up capital for this period, and so I plan to put in place some lifestyle disciplines, which includes my car
This means that buying anything on a whim will be unlikely - although reasonably cheap occasional dalliances will be possible (ie Pete's Skyline)
If I'm going to bite this bullet, there has to be something nice in the meantime, in terms of the vehicle I get about in
I don't want to repeat history - old supercar in the garage and beater day to day
Key criteria:
I will enjoy driving for the next five years
It will still be worth more than peanuts at the end of that period
Should still look good in five years
Won't be ruinously expensive in terms of running costs
Has very high performance
Will be relatively easy to sell/trade in if the right supercar bargain comes along
Won't cost more than

Volkswagon Phaeton 3.6 v6 4 motion. good all rounder and they go real well if chipped. holds money well four good size seats and on par with most top margues at the moment.
cannot think of anything else unless your going for a sports tourer type car.

I have no idea what they cost, but I'm assuming you're talking near new?
would it be worth anything after 5 years and at 100K?
that, and the lack of image, worries me
a test drive might change everything, but I'm thinking I couldn't stand it for five years
apologies now and in advance if this turns into a 'yes, but' thread
but I openly admit I'm looking for some input to help my thinking
ps I'd better add now - I WILL NOT HAVE A DIESEL!

Nope RS4 old shape still holding their value at mega mileage
Consistently asking circa
911 comes to mind first, but not so sure residuals on these are as good nowadays (or reliability?).
But if you have 70k miles on the clock of any high performance "exclusive" car, its going to impact heavily on residuals.
