Had the family car Subaru Outback oil changed today... At the dealer they had 2 '00 S4's and a WRX demo. Drove them both back-to-back on a fairly spirited drive...

S4: Great accelleration, no lag, VERY fast, but felt heavy and disconnected in the corners. Great leather and wood interior with power everything, very luxurious. About $32K used. I understand after driving one, however, why I spank them so badly on the track. It is a sporty sedan, heavy and soft (comparitively...)

WRX: Third test drive, completely broken in car. I still remain underwhelmed. Very noticable turbo-lag, and you really feel like you are driving in a suped up economy car, which is not surprising as that is really what the WRX is... Rubbery shifting, hard to find first (abused demo?). While lighter feeling than the S4, it's not even close which one I'd rather have in my garage. Just not that much fun to drive..

Outback: Well, certainly slower than either, and not nearly as good handling, but still great for the family stuff and hauling newspapers and jars to the recycle place... Still my favorite Subaru!
