We took the unit to the car, first threading the ribbon wire leads through the 2nd hole from the left in the metal frame under the head unit, making sure the ribbon lead was pulled all the way through, so there would be no buckling where the door hinges. Then we snapped the head unit frame/door assembly back into place, starting with the bottom tabs first, then the tabs in the top two corners. We wired the power and ground connections with spade connectors to exiting connections for the head unit, then ran the cable for the sensors through one of the rubber grommets in the drivers footwell into the engine bay. For now, the sensor lead cable is coiled up in the back of the engine bay under the brake fluid reservoir, waiting for sensor parts to arrive so we can complete the job.

The photos below show the final result.

Here are the basic parts you need for this job:

Spare head unit door (from HandA, board sponsor, http://www.handa-accessories.com/s2000.html). This is good in case you screw up and in the event you want to return your car to stock.

Nordskog digital gauges ( http://www.intellitronix.com/streetdig2.html ):
Digital oil pressure: M9014
Digital oil temp: M9008
Digital water temp: M90013
Digital air temp: M9009
Temp sender kit for water and oil temp (2): S8013
Air Temp sneder/gauge kit: M9009
Oil pressure sender kit: S8014

3 feet 16 lead ribbon cable
10 feet 6 lead bundled cable for running sensor leads into engine bay
1 sheet .030 Evergreen plastic sheet
Small can Testors hobby flat black enamel
High quality super glue
Various ribbon cable connectors and standard spade connectors for wire connections

There are also three other sensor/sender parts needed to complete the oil pressure/temp and water temp connections that James Mullins will post soon.

I am disappointed that this won't be one of your offerings, but really do appreciate you sharing your research and doing the complete write-up. One more project on my list! Thanks to both of you..

Ever heard of the phrase "..in moderation" - Looking at the pic of your car interior appear to me to be a bit beyond moderation..

So when will you adding velvet and fuzzy dice?

jnmunsey,

I'm personally insulted by that comment, and the smile does not help. I spent three hours photographing and writing up that post for the benefit of others and all you can come up with is a wise crack? Give me a break
