Here is a summary of what to expect if you are 1 of the 16 in the Parade Lap for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Please go to the following link for event dates and schedule (http://www.gpstpete.com/home.cfm).
ALL Ticket Packages have been delivered to the original "Sweet 16" as confirmed to me on 3/22/06 HOWEVER I am currently in the process of contacting Alternate #1 (SiCK HONDA) to replace Neural Man because he can no longer make the event. Once I have confirmed that SiCK can make the event I will put them in contact with eachother so they can exchange ticket packages ASAP.
According to an email I received today (3/22) the GP has mailed me a "packet" with the final directions, agenda, etc. Originally this was suppose to be emailed to me so I could post here. Always a change I guess. In any event once I have this information which should be later this week I will scan, retype, or at least summarize here so everyone knows what the GP expects. If they have provided me copies in this "packet" then I will have them available at the event or we'll figure something out. I do apologize for the sort of last minute change but I'm only relaying to you what I've been told each time.
Remember you are a guest of the GP for the entire weekend and only have to have your car in showroom, basically stock condition (see prior thread please on that one). Yes, rims are fine and even exhausts just no major body kits (I had Comptech sideskirts and OEM lip last year and that was fine), or decals that include advertisements, etc.
Based on last year but we'll see what the GP gives you:
You will need to remove the windscreen because that's where the celebrity will sit. If in doubt you can remove at the track Sunday morning. Easy to do. As I recall only a flat head screwdriver is needed and then you can store in the trunk.
You will want to put the convertible top cover/bonnet on the car when it comes time for the actual Parade Lap on Sunday. If you don't have one, borrow one for a few hours. There should be plenty of S's attending that weekend so I'm sure you can bum one for a spin around the track and return right there.
You will need to wear the T- shirt (described within the thread) I will provide at the track for the actual parade lap on Sunday.
Your car MUST be in the cleanest of conditions so wash, wash, wash, touch up paint, clean the leather, all of that stuff. I would recommend that you bring a few towels, tire dressing, and a California Duster in your trunk. The race dust and debris alone will get your car pretty dirty just while you wait to get on the track Sunday.
You will have a chance to at least get an autograph from your "race celebrity" but maybe others if time and staff permits. Bring a couple Sharpies and a program.
Your guest, wife, husband, girlfriend, etc. will NOT be riding as passenger during the parade at least based on last year. The celebrity will be sitting where the windscreen goes but their legs will be draped over into your passenger seat.
Bring your cameras to capture the event. You will also want your guest to have a camera too probably so they can snap pictures or take video from the stands. I seriously doubt the staff will permit any massive video set-ups in/on your car during the parade lap.
No Advertisements on your car that are visible. As an example - I have a couple dozen stickers (Ztech.com, Comptech Sports, etc.) but they're under the hood and out of site.
Basically when it doubt, don't do it.
If it's like last year it was hot especially sitting out on the track waiting for the actually celebrities to file out and then load up. No telling with Florida weather but I think we all had to wear jeans for the parade lap itself plus the shirt and hat they gave us which all happen to be black and a very dark gray. Hot! We used the towels to keep the seats cool and the area where the celebrity was going to sit. You might even want a bottle of water but definitely some sunglasses and SPF.
What else? Other than that get to work making the S look like perfection and get ready for some serious fun. I will repost the final list in my next post.
I suggest several colors of Sharpies including a silver paint version.
I was lucky enough to think of the silver ones and I am glad I did. With the hats being black my pens turned out to be stars as everyone wanted to borrow them. I suggest black, blue, green and silver because depending on what color hat shirt etc they give you, you may want to have some palette choices
FYI - here's the link to the thread that was started about the "Sweet 16" organizing, discussing, etc. the Parade Lap. Good luck everyone and have a blast.
