Gutting the airbox

Gutting the airbox
I took the lid off the airbox yesterday and went for a quick drive and i have this sudden need to make the intake a little louder than it is stock.
I know that spoon recommends you gut the airbox when you put the snorkel in so why not do it anyways ?
Does anyone have pics of there airbox's gutted and does it have any draw backs like the noise the car makes when it idles with the lid off ?

I blocked off the resonator chamber, and it gives I'd say 20% of the sound it does with the box off. I also cut down the center devider, but left the L shaped air guide in the top of the box intact. No complaints here

actually, on this note:
Has anyone ever experimented with placing some type of weather stripping on top of a "topless" air box, to seal it against the hood... so you still get the sound but no heatsoak? Seems like you'd also have more "spare air" on reserve for throttle response....
Anyone tried that?

Taking the lit off with stripping or not is a bad idea. Dyno-tests have show significant loss in hp with the lid off. This is not an effect of heatsoak either since dyno runs are done with the car stationary and hood up.

I cut out the wall as best i could from the lid, and the box, and took out the plastic duct part that was on the lid. Then I trimmed the piece of plastic sticking into the box on the scoop. It sounds a little meaner now..

That dyno is junk.
The s2k is slower, beyond a shadow of a doubt, with the lid off. We've proven this with roll-ons a long time ago. It's ALOT slower.
I tried completely gutting my airbox. The increase in sound is barely noticeable.
These are the facts man
