Modular Amp Rack for my Rio S2000 *pics
Slowly my stereo setup is coming together and this weekend I concentrated on installing my componet speakers and installing my amps in the trunk.
I have looked at various installs on this board and amazed at the creativity of everyone who contributed! I had some basic criteria for my design so let me go over some of them.
1) Although I don't drive around locally with a spare, I like to keep that space "available" for the spare on long trips so no amp rack there.
2) I'm not showing this car so I wanted my amp / crossovers hidden but also accessible if need be for tuning and maintenance. Finally settled on a modular amp rack over the gas tank area. Everything barely fit and I was lucky to find a new Alpine Digital amp that packs a lot of power in a tiny footprint. Look at the pic! This thing does 4x150 @ 2 ohms so I'm running 2x150 to my front components and another 300 watts mono to my single 10w6 subwoofer! There is no other amp out there that can do so much in so little space.....
3) My subwoofer has to be a JL 10W6v2 but cannot take up the tub area in case I need to put my spare rim in that location. I need maximum trunk space for my bowling bag, etc too. Decided on a "WLAURENT" V2 enclosure on my driver's side. He is going to help me fit a JL 10w6 with 0.625 cubic feet.
4) Dynamat my trunk to minimize as much noise as possible with the top up on long trips.
I will have pics up short.....let me know whatcha think! Sound is phenominal with this setup.
Next step is to cut the dash for my new double din radio

Yo Rick....everything sounds good except you are overlooking one key element.
You say locally, you dont drive around with a spare, its only for long trips, etc. Remember you will probably have a full trunk-o-stuff on a long trip.
If you are traveling with a passenger, you are screwed.
Just something to think about!

Very true....but I'm pretty sure my g/f will much rather hold a few duffle bags on her lap than my dirty 18" rim/tire combo...hahaha
This is all just in case of emergeny but at least I have that tub area as a choice rather than be SOL.
Also I forgot to mention but I removed that softtop lower plastic piece so my trunk is pretty much a direct pass through into my trunk so it's nice to be able to throw stuff over the roll hoops directly into my spare tire area without stopping...hahaha
here are the pics, enjoy!

damn you got the pdx amp. i wanted one pretty bad, but i couldnt wait for it to be released. how do you like it?
This amp so far is EXCEEDING all my expectations!
I am a die hard JL Audio amp guy and was going to use Audison this time around but at $1400 for the 4-channel VRx4.300 it's a bit steep and the chassis was way to big to fit in the gas tank area.
Then I stumbled onto this amp at my local dealer. He was toting it as the JL amp killer and I was stunned by it's small footprint. Almost like Alpine was reading my mind....however I gotta admit I'm kinda skeptical about Alpine amp quality. But with my space constrictions figured I'd give it a shot.
The amp is rated for 4x150 watts per channel whether you drive it at 2 or 4 ohms per channel.
I ran 2 channels to the front Quarts and bridged the remaining 2 for the single 10w6 subwoofer.
Been running it pretty hard the last few days and so far no issues. Guess I'll have to road test it some more into this summer to see how it holds up but can't complain so far.
The amp has the finish of the old Macintosh amps and beautifully crafted with hidden screw mounts and built in crossovers. The cool blue light in the middle reminds me of my Krell home audiophile preamp unit

I bought 2 of them so have one extra sitting here. Still can't get over how small it is.....

I was just asking questions about that amp the other day. I saw it at a shop and couldn't believe how tiny it was. Am waiting for an online retailer to get them back in stock cause they're selling them for a good price. Mind if I ask you how much you paid for the amp?

My buddy owns a huge stereo shop out here so I got a special hookup price - he told me they retail for about $700, what's internet pricing?
I'm not sure what internet pricing is but I never buy this stuff off internet (no warranty) and prefer to support my buddies shop anyday even if it costs more.
I paid probably under cost....haha

RBR: I don't want to violate any forum rules since I think only sponsors can do group buys.
Talked to my buddy and he said he's willing to do a group buy but no retail shop will match internet pricing. And the warranty from a shop is legit and internet dealers don't have warranty through mfr. no matter what they say.
Go read on JL's site about internet sellers: www.jlaudio.com
Anyways he said he can do $540 per unit if we buy 10 at a time.
