Default 2005 Stereo Install Wiring Question with Pics

I have a 2005 S2000 and I am planning to install a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X790 head unit, along with the Modifry Kenwood IR adapter. I am also installing a Kenwood iPod adapter and the Kenwood Sirius satelite adapter. But, I am not too worried about the whole install, except I want to make sure I have the wiring from the OEM harness to the Kenwood HU correct. I have the 2000-2003 manual and am not sure if the 2005 HU is wired differently, and the Crutchfield Honda/Acura wiring sheet looks different than the Service Manual.

1. Anyway, can you look at these images and tell me if the wiring I have listed is right or not?
2. Also, where do I wire the "Lights-On Signal" wire? Listed as wire # 9.
3. Is my wiring for the Modifry Mute correct?

I will take any positive or negative feedback, as long as it helps me. I have another long time S2000 owner helping me and another friend that is good with stereo wiring, so I am not too worried, I just wanted to see if I got it correct without any help.

I have read through the posts here and most of the useful info covers the 2000-2003 wiring, and some sites are so old, the images are gone.

I added the wiring numbers and labels on the left of the Kenwood listing.

I apologize for the quality of the images, they were created in Microsoft Paint and then saved as BMPs and coverted to JPEGs to upload to my site. The images on the link below look a little better.

Ok, my S2000 owner friend just told me how to get to the Modifry installation instructions PDF and that pretty much cleared everything up.

For the record, the Honda manual diagram above (the bottom one) is what's in the 00-05 manual as well; the only change is the footnote, which says " '02-'05 models ". HPH

No, I have not cut the factory plug off. I am smarter than that.

My friend Gamecocks2k on this board, told and showed me the way the plug match up. He was telling me the Kenwood plug will have a industry standardized color scheme, which the Modifry factory adapter should match color wise. So, all we will need to do is match up the colors and then double check to make sure they are the correct arrangement. He showed me the Modifry installation instruction which include a color schematic of the DCI plug wiring and how it mates to the other adapters.

So, once I have the adapter finished, I should have this wiring adapter with 3 plugs and 1 loose wire. The 3 plugs should fit as follows; 1 into the factory harness, 1 into the back of the Kenwood HU and 1 into the DCI module. Then, the loose wire that comes of the DCI plug goes into the vehicle speed sensor, if I choose to hook it up, which I do not think I will. That is not a feature I think I will really want/like. But, I am going ot leave the wire so I can hook it up later if I so desire, and cover the end with electrical tape.

I am pretty good at wiring things up. I used to own a 2002 WRX and I installed a gauge pod with 3 AutoMeter gauges and ran the wiring myself. Which including disecting the wiring manual to find the dash light dimmer control wires and taping into them to allow the guages to dim with the dash lights. It was not to easy, but I got it to work. I just do not want to fry a $350 Kenwood HU so I wanted a little feedback.

Ok, so I got everything setup and wired. Everything works properly so far. I can browse and listen to the iPod, I can listen to Sirius satellite radio stations, and my Modifry DCI works. I do no thave everything programmed yet. I did get the head unit menu settings finished, the display adjusted to my liking, the station preset programmed and the date/time set. The Kenwood HU I got has several RCA wires on the back I did not use, so there was a tight fit getting the radio bcak in. But, after I spead the wires around behind the HU and pushed them back some, it fit pretty good.

So, now all I need is to enjoy my new radio along with the Polk DB650 components I installed last fall.

I do have one question. My 2005 Honda HU had 3 wires in teh back; the radio antennae, the 20 pin radio wiring harness and another white s like shaped plug. What is this white plug? Also, the factory head unit appearred to have rear speaker wires setup in the plug. Is there wires already run to a section behind the seats for the headrest speakers?

Doytontp,

Where'd you mount the Sirius adapter? Under the passenger seat? Did you screw it down?

I've bought the Kenwood X790 also, but not yet made a decision on the DCI. I see that PAC's new SWI-ALP now does Kenwood, and without the Mute relay. OTIH, Modifry has the speed controlled-volume, but doesn't yet do a wired DCI for the eXcelons.

For now, the units are in the pocket on the back of the passenger's seat. Not really the best setup. To secure the unit under the passenger's seat would require removing the seat to get the best access to the spot. I did not have the time available the night I installed everything. Modifry does not offer a wired DCI remote, because Kenwood does not have an option for a wired remote input. From my understanding, the PAC unit is more expensive and requires programming on the owners part after the install. I find the DCI works very well. Also, if you get the Modifry, you can remove the the drivers knee pad cover off the left side of the radio and run the flip switch panel to that spot. So, you do not have to pull the radio to get to the flip switches to change functions operation of the DCI unit.

One important thing to note. The front right speaker channel stopped working over the weekend. I could hear on Friday it seemed to be a lot lower in volume than the left and some noises almost like the speaker cone was cracked or as if the double sided foam tape on the tweeter was coming loose and the tweeter was hitting something. Well, yesterday the channel went completely silent. So, I took the right (passenger

Thanks for the info.

The Kenwood eXcelon line does have a wired remote input. On the schematic above, note the wire coming from the upper left of the pictured KDC-X790. Kenwood has a line of four of these models with the wired remote input.

The new PAC SWI-ALP has a wire to connect to it, as well as the stereo mini-plug it's always had. Modifry says he's going to look into supporting, but it'll be a while before he does. And I guess if he does. I understand there's a DJqube that sells DCIs also, though I've been unable to find his product as yet.
