Default Kumho SPT

I just bought the Kumho SPT 255/40/17 for my AP2 and I don't like 'em. The sidewalls are too soft and I feel like I'm driving an 1985 Cadillac! There is a lot more sway than before, way more!! And I feel as if they are going to break away. Not as responsive as the RE050, but then again, you can't really compare the two.

If you just put them on I would suggest you wait till the tires are broke in to make your report. I will say they are not as good as the tires that came on the car. Once they break in they are going to be better.

New tires (even the same as you just replaced) always feel squirmy at first. There is more rubber between you and the road. Don;t worry, they'll wear down soon enough

You bought 1 size larger SPT for the rear only and have stock RE050 on the front ? If this is true, then the handling is compromised. You should replace both front and rear with same tire brand and model.

You may try to increase pressure of two rear by few PSI, it would reduce the softness of the side-walls, increase by 2 PSI each time then test run, you may find a pressure that will get you the best compromise in handling, ride, noise, gas mileage and long tread life.

Just remember that you should not expect to get the same performance as RE050 for half the price and may lasted a lot longer.

that i know but here is the problem.

stock is 245/40/17, 40 being a percentage of 245. well, I went with 255/40/17, obviously this tire is higher than the stock size therefore having more flexible sidewall compared to the shorter one I had with the stock size, did I lose anyone?i should have gone with 255/35/17.

Jim, correct me if i'm wrong...

I think the 255 is how wide the tire is. The tire heights are both 40 so I don't see why there would be a difference.

you should have went with 245-40-17...

much like the Kumho MX's you gotta give them alittle PSI so they dont feel too soft.. try 40.

Jonnybravo,
The middle number is the aspect ratio of the side-wall to section width. Overall diameter of 255/40R17 is about 0.4" larger than 245/40R17.
