Switzerland & Northern Italy
Following our hugely successful blast through France I am looking to make another trip as part of my 40th birthday in September 2006.
Departure date is Saturday 26th August 2006. NorfolkLine Ferry 0800 departure, arriving Dunkerque 1100 local.
Return date Friday 1st Sept 2006. NorfolkLine Ferry 1801 departure, arriving Dover 1900 local.
The Route.
Day 1. Sat 26/08/06.
Dunkerque to Bescancon.
More of a utility type of run this. Get there quick sort of thing. Although i have a little off piste detour for the final few k.
Day 2. Sun 27/08/06.
Bescancon to Locarno.
Through the heart of Switzerland. We will skirt Lake Geneva, pass through Montreux & Sion via main roads/motorways before we drop into picturesque Locarno located on the shores of Lago Maggiore on the Italian border.
Day 3. Mon 28/08/06.
Locarno to Castiglione Asti, Italy.
A leisurely drive through the Italian Alpine foothills to the area midway between the Italian coast & Turin. We start by following the shores of Lake Maggiore before we head south west avoiding motorways & the busier roads. This allows us to explore & pass through the quiet towns & villages we like to wake up!! Sound familiar? Distance is approx 170miles.
Day 4. Tues 29/08/06.
Castiglione Asti, Italy to Vence near Nice, France.
Heading south west from the hotel to the Italian Riveira coast. Follow the coast road crossing the French border at Menton before continuing on to Nice. We might throw in a drive around the F1 circuit in Monaco. From Nice the hotel is approx 15k north in the hills.
Day 5. Wed 30/08/06.
Vence to Uriage Les Bains, south east of Grenoble.
Somehow doing the N202 & N85 from Nice northwards. We will decide what exact route when we are there.
Day 6. Thurs 31/08/06.
Uriage Les Bains, Grenoble to Nitry. Hotel is booked. We have been here before & it is a fantastic hotel. Route will be a combination of motorway & nice driving roads.
Total distance on the continent is approx 1800 miles.
DISCLAIMER
This won't be a blast as in our last sojourn to the continent & excessive speeding is not something we think is big or clever. If you want to drive like a lunatic please find another trip to join or organise your own.
