ap2 tranny in ap1

Default ap2 tranny in ap1

im thinking of getting an ap2 tranny and swap it in my ap1. who here has done it? where and how much did you get the tranny for? what needs to be changed out in the process? its pretty much bolt off bolt on right?

I have an AP2 tranny in my '03 AP1. The driveshaft coupling is different. I can't remember the specific part name though. Ganley Honda in Cleveland has done several of these swaps (including mine). You can get their number through the dealer locator on the Honda car site.

A used '04 transmission (if you can find one) will cost somewhere between $1500 and $2500. I bought a complete '04 engine and transmission set (new - less than 20 miles on them - 0 mile total loss while in transport). I swapped the transmission out before getting stationed in the Middle East (car is in storage).

I bought mine from the Hard Top Guy (formerly at Ganley).

I love the transmission. It was worth the swap - especially with 4.57 gears.

For note - I believe '04 and later JDM transmissions are not the same as the USDM AP2 transmission. There are a lot of used JDM parts floating around so request the serial number for verification and cross reference it before you buy.

1-5 gear ratios, in conjuction with the new final reduction inside the trans, are lower in the AP2 trans. 6th gear is taller, allowing you to drop your cruising RPM in 6th.

You may want to get a yellow box to recal the speedo, as the speedo pickup reads the countershaft speed, not the driveshaft speed.

You can opt to not get the yellow box, your speedo will read a few mph high, and you'll get less speeding tickets

This is one of my favorite mods, as I can now walk a stock AP1.

so it would be like have a 4.44 in a stock ap1?

Shh.... That is my secret....

Even 4.57 gears it was a blast. Pulls off the corners well at the track.

Gears 1-4 = 4% lower for performance
Gear 5 = 1% lower
Gear 6 = 2% higher

so now where can i buy one? i know a salvage yard about 40 mins from here but i've never seen an s2000 there ever. would the dealer be able to supply me the tranny?

I have the 4.57's and the AP2 transmission, and I wouln't go back to stock if you paid me.
