i have the ap2 tranny in my ap1 with a competition stage 2 clutch and light flywheel. that combo is awsome with my 4.56 gears. in my old s2000 i had a ap1 tranny with 4.56 gears and i can definitly tell a huge difference with this car vs. my old one. the tranny also feels alot smoother and more solid

I thought that my 4.44 with the SC was killer. It certainly improved my lap times.
Were you running OE axles? I have the shakes so I'll swap CV's soon. But there's a lot of play so I want to replace them in the summer. I was thinking I may as well spend an extra few for stronger axles from the drive shaft shop.

Hi Pinky,

Gregg did gawk at that. It's understandable. Outside the Comptech factory program, that was the first running customer install of a supercharger. It was the only one at the S2K Days in Ashville.

Didn't we also get together for a track day with Gregg up at NHIS motorsports park track (the old Bryar Motorsports Park in Loudin, NH). I think that we had lunch down the road from the track that day. No?

I don't know how to calculate the lower ratios of an AP2 gearbox pushing a 4.77 final drive but it's got to result in an all day exercise in shifting. Your straight line speed should suffer because you'd be pulling a new gear every 5 seconds.

If you can find someone with an understanding of gearing math, talk to them about such low gearing setup.

AP2 gearboxes with reasonably low miles should cost between $1,000 to $1,600 before shipping.

A search at www.car-part.com showed that there were four good units within 500 miles of Boston (I used my old zip code.).

I'm lost about what shop to use up your way. I know that it's a couple of hours drive to his shop but you might consider chatting up billman250 about doing the work or whether he has knowledge of a shop near you.

If you do it, post your finding back here for us to see.

Be well
Yeah I thought you were the FIRST OF THE FIRST!!!

Yes we did catch up at NHIS...........you got a better memory than I do! GO FIGURE! Lunch was good. My head was so rapped around the track day as it was my first.

As for the 4.77 gearing and an AP2 tranny. I guess we shall see. I don't think it will be an all day exercise. If you calculate 4% on smaller numbers aka miles per hour it's not that big of a difference. I guess we shall see! I don't have much of a choice in this matter!

Hardtopguy said 2250 for a used AP2 tranny. I asked about where it was out of and was it checked over before it's sold. That along with ACT fly wheel and OEM clutch shipping would cost $150.

Billman250 IS going to be doing the install. Quoted me $450 for install of tranny/clutch. So that is not a worry. He was looking into the cost of tranny's for me as of yestday. Need to go check PM's.

I will let you guys know final results and thoughs.

^ probably. I have nearly 100K miles on mine now and only got the shakes a few months after I had lowered it.

It has always had a lot of play in the driveline (assuming the CVs)

I have a theory. I assume he previous owner did not now how to revmatch on a down shift due to the early failure of my friction disk spring retainers. In turn this type of non revmatched down shift would be hard on the CV's which probably caused some pitting.

I'll just replace the axles along with the trans and it shouldn't need to be babied

You know, I've been lucky on that one. I have not had a single problem with a CV joint over what is now more than 100,000 miles between my first and present S2K.

I don't know if it's because I had drive shaft spacers fabricated so early on in the game with the first one.
Spacers? Is this something I not hear about yet?

As for the shakes.....I have them a little and have through about swapping the CV joints side to side to eliminate that for the time being as this would put pressure then on the opposite side of the CV joint.

OK FINDERS FEE POSSIBLE!

If anybody can find a used tranny with less than 20 miles on it (basically never used) AP2 I will put up $1700 bucks to pay for it. Anything it costs under that is A FINDERS FEE!

People keep saying they can be had for sub 1500 with zero or less than 20 miles on it so lets see it!

I also just made the upgrade to the Ap2 trans with an ACT street clutch. Also have the 4.77 gears and its very enjoyable . The longer sixth gear is a plus also for the highway.

Harry:
I think I might be getting one of the LAST of those from HTG. He says it has 6 miles on it and it's a 2004 tranny.(LAST ONE) Yeah it's some good coin but might just have to suck it up.

touges2000:
THANK YOU FOR THE INPUT! That's the words I was hoping to hear. Glad somebody else has this seup and isn't upset with the change. I am going to go with HTG's ACT Pressure Plate, OEM disk and OEM flywheel per recomendation of a local S2K guy.

Thanks very much guys!!!!
