Post Used Oil Analysis Mobil1 EP 10w30

Just to add something to the community. The additive bug bit me so I've been using Valvoline Synpower Oil Treatment and LC20 over this interval.

Oil: Mobil1 Extended Performance 10W30
Oil Filter: PureOne
VSOT added: 5 ounces initially and 1 ounce every 1000 miles.
LC20 added: 7 ounces initially and 2 ounces every 1000 miles.

It's been to two autocrosses and I've recently installed a redline shift beeper (so that means I've been testing out that toy too!).

Unit:
EQUIPMENT MAKE: Honda
EQUIPMENT MODEL: 2.0L S2000
FUEL TYPE: Gasoline (Unleaded)
OIL USE INTERVAL: 5,087 Miles
OIL TYPE & GRADE: Mobil 1 10W/30 EP (gas)
MAKE-UP OIL ADDED: 0.5 qt

Comments:
Thanks for the note about the additives you're using. The extra additives in the oil may be diluting wear a little, but we think your Honda is doing well as you approach 50,000 miles. We found almost no bearing wear in the oil (see copper, lead, and tin). Upper-end wear looks fine. The TBN read 4.3, still active additive remaining in the oil. The oil was in good shape physically, containing no moisture, fuel, or coolant. The air and oil filters are working well too (see silicon and insolubles). Looks like a great engine and we can tell you're treating it well!

Wow! That's a great UOA, especially since it's seen some aggressive driving. Since your silicon levels are low, it looks like your air filter is doing its job.

Thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks for posting.
Good numbers!
No K&N filter I guess

Are you going to extend your OCI?
7500 miles or so?

Moly is up, are those the additives you put in?

Yes the moly increase is from VSOT. And the stock air filter was on there for 9000 miles before the start of that oil change. I'm actually surprised at the low silicon numbers. There is ongoing road construction all around where I live and drive and it's been pretty hot and dry this summer.

I'm planning on extending the interval to 7500 miles, but I wanted to make sure the additives were doing okay in the oil and the racing wasn't throwing off the numbers too much.

This is my first analysis and I'll probably stick with this oil and additives and perform another analysis after a while to start a UOA trend.

Oh I've been bitten, my friend. I've already posted the results over there:
http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultima...ic&f=3&t=003688

The bug has helped me decide on my oil and adds and how it'll be okay even if I don't worry about it .

I've even Auto-RX'd my S2000's engine, transmission and differential! I tested the stuff out on my (now gone) 98 Integra in the engine and the tranny and I was happy with the results.

I would like to note that even with the constant redlining/racing, the PureONE oil filter did an outstanding job. Just wanted to point that out since some folks think that it restricts flow too much.

If you do a search in the Bitog website for Mobil 1, you will find a comparison between various viscosities. Mobil 1 0W30 seems like better oil than 10W30. It is a little harder to find Mobil 1 0W30 than 10W30, the only place I can find 0W30 is at Walmart.

LC20 is a number of different things
Take this excerpt from their website:

LC20 levels the TBN, reduces oxidation, provides an extra measure of lubricity, provides extra rust control, and will literally melt (soften and emulsify) carbonaceous deposits.

Folks over at BobIsTheOilGuy swear by the stuff and you'll occasionally hear RoadRage and a few other of the oil experts on this forum classify it as one of the good oil additives.
