The good news is that my local Honda dealer has just informed me that Honda will replace all four alloys on my March 2000 S2k due to pitting and bubbling on the leading edge of each spoke.

The possible bad news is that I asked if they could be replaced with the 2002MY wheels and he said "No, Honda will only replace parts like for like under warranty"

Does anyone know if Honda modified the wheel design post March 2000 or does this mean that I'm going to get the trouble all over again in a couple of year's time when the car is out of warranty?

Pete

seems a silly policy - if there is change made to the car which prevents a further warranty claim - you think they would be smart enough to realise that makes good business sense - as well as helping the customer.

Imagine the reverse scenario - if they have run out of the older wheel and can only supply the new one and you were demanding original design - there would fish out another line of the policy which probably states "Honda reserves the right to change the spec at anytime!"

That's what I thought! I think I'll trace back and find out who the S2ki member is that's a technical manager at a Honda dealer in Bristol, and then I'll ask him.

Good news Pete

I can understand the 'like for like' replacement to an extent - tho' it could be costly for Honda in the long run. With regard to the new wheels having the same problem in a couple of years time and being out of warranty - I would have thought (and hoped) that the new wheels get a new (3yr) warranty? Anyone know about this?

Be interesting to know how much an extended Honda warranty costs.

i.e. If wheels are

That's exactly what I said to the dealer and he said that once the car itslef was out of warranty that was it. The warranty does not apply to parts fitted. (Which I agree doesn't seem logical)

It's my understanding that the stock wheels were modified very early on in the first ('00) model year, in recognition of early corrosion problems. Whilst you may not get '02 wheels I'm fairly sure you will be getting a wheel with improved finish over those fitted on early models.

That seems iffy to me - taken to an extreme you could have the engine replaced under warrant 2yrs 364 days into ownership. Engine fails 2 days later - no comeback

Thanks Cedric.
OK, let's do a check then.....
Mine's a March 2000 car and has what is getting to be serious problems on the leading edges of all the spokes (this after 20 months). Has anyone had any signs at all of these problems on a late 2000 / 2001 car?

Mine is, I think, June 2000 and is just starting to bubble on the fronts - awaiting my dealers response!!
