assuming that it is not all that dirty, you would just use the same shampoo that you use on the car with a brush that is not too stiff (fairly soft)- just wash it, rinse and dry it-
then the key is to protect it... several choices here- vinylex, 303 and raggtopp (for vinyl) are the most popular choices-
soak a clean rag away from the car and rub it in really well. its ok to have excess product at this point- let it sit for awhile (i do the rest of the car at this point) and then buff it off with another clean rag. might need two rags.

The 303 is available at West Marine, or Ace hardware stores. It's what I use and it seems to work fine.

I think the others have to be purchased online.

I used to use 303, but after my first application of Raggtopp, I'd recommend it over 303 any day.

What was the difference that made you pick one over the other?

wash:
i used a mild liquid soap, hand or dish soap and a medium brush, let it totally dry.

303 application:
i used the 303 Fabric Guard. it came in a dork spray bottle. to prevent the product from getting on everything; emptied the bottle into a small bucket and with a sponge applied it to the top. there is talk on the forum that you can apply soo much 303 that if in a rain it will wash out of the cloth and onto your paint. cant say i have experienced this, i really nailed the top with 303 but it has not rained a lot where i live.

303 has a tendancy to wash off and get on the paint. Raggtop doesn't run off.

That would be why I prefer Raggtopp. It doesn't run off like 303, it applies easier and isn't greasy or shiny after application - it's got a nice matte sheen.

I prefer Ragg Top as well. I never got much run off with 303 but Ragg Top doesn't run at all. Plus, I like the sheen Ragg Top leaves. It's a little more "new" looking where as 303 is shiny looking.
