Alcantara Interior Project
****Pics updated on page 3 and 4****
For those that don't drift on over to the GB section often, I've been selling interior panels now for a while (see sig). So far, it's just been side job for me. I don't promote it often b/c I'm too busy with my real job to take a lot of orders. Anyway, it started all with just a simple vinyl cover for the 00-01 carpet console. From that, it turned into stitched shift boots and from there it just took off everywhere.
Ever since I started, someone has asked me atleast once every couple of weeks if I would be interested in covering a dash in Alcantara (ala ferrari/lambo). Up until now, I always turned it down b/c of the complexity and size of the project.
Recently, a member from New York decided to go along with an experimental job to see if it could actually be done. I've gotten a lot better since I first started doing JPM stuff and feel I'm finally ready to give this job a shot.
We got together, discussed some particulars and ended up with an interior job that should keep my busy for a while, and give him an interior that probably won't happen again. I'll keep the progress in this thread so everyone can check it out as it comes along.
Anyway, last week the parts started rolling in. I received a used dash from a salvage yard:

Besides the dust, it's pretty clean and will serve it's purpose well.
In addition, AP2 door panels were purchased and shipped to my place as well. They have already be disassebled in their individual peices ready for pattern making.

The top part will be covered with Alcantara (something that I have never done before) and the center will have a mix of leather and Alcantara.
Of course, an AP2 center console was purchased as well and will get the JPM treatment

And finally, the bits and peices of the windsheild trim. Guage pods on the left, door handles, e-brake, and a center display for the dash:

The door handles and e-brake will be wrapped in leather and the windsheild trim will be in Alcantara. The center bezel will be used for turbo and ECU equipment I believe.
So, work has recently started. I plan on doing the bits first and tackling the dash last. I ordered genuine Alcantara for this project which is a bit hard to get. There are only four suppliers in the US that carry real Alcantara from Italy. I use a similar product that looks just as good for my regular stuff, but it just doesn't have the stretching capacity that the real thing has. The leather is all premium furniture grade leather that's super plush.
The parts I started on were the handles. So far, I've managed to make a mock up of how they will look. This is just a sample. The ends have threads hanging out and frayed ends because I will end up taking this all apart and using this first rendition to make a pattern (to sell later under JPM
)

Next, I have to break all the stitches, make a pattern, then test out the final peice. After that, I will start on the e-brake, and then the standard JPM stuff that I already have patterns for like the console and door panels. After that's all done, I'll start mocking up the dash.
Stay tuned for progress as it comes along
