Default Coronado Trail / Rt 191 / Rt 666 Pre-planning

Hey, all,

I would like to get some rough ideas about when we would like to do this drive again. We need to give everyone plenty of notice to arrange their schedules.

For the unitiated, we have 275 miles of the best roads in the country a few hours from Phoenix. In October, a group of us did a 3-day drive/party that was about as great as any drive could ever be. See these threads for write-ups:

-- Team Irvine and Ceo2b have mentioned April or May. This would ensure that we don't hit snow in the mountains.
-- The S2KCA National meet is late June, and we will need to keep our event away from their date if we want participation from other states.
-- Their has been talk about Texas and New Mexico owners joining us.
-- Summer would be tough. The Coronado Trail would be great during the summer, but driving through the desert wouldn't be so great.
-- September or October would work well, if we are willing to push the date out that far.
-- The last event was 3 days, which meant taking off work on Monday. It worked pretty well last time -- any issues or suggestions on changing the schedule?

Give me some idea of interest and your opinions on dates.

Thanks,
Tanq

Tanq,

FYI, Some of our Texan brothers would want to participate on that Devilish Highway Run Event. John David and Randy (Schatten) for sure.

Everyone-

This is one of those 'can't miss' events. Some of the prettiest country you'll ever hope to see, some of the best driving, and some of the best small-town bar-hopping. Although, the vodka leaves a lot to be desired.

Early April sounds good to me, Chris. I refuse to do it without the President of the Arizona VOTA chapter, so I'd suggest you floating a few dates that work for you & taking a poll.

Let's not push it back until September / October .... let's do it again then!

Hi Cris
Late April sounds good. The snow should be gone and it will still be cool. (Remember, the S runs better when it is cooler) I am always looking for an excuse to take a Monday off. After the last run I am sure we will have lots of company. I am dreaming about having 50 cars in the parking lot at Blue Vista. BTW we are also planning on the Lake Havasu drive.

Saw your post on the NT Club forum but the link was bad. I hope this is where you intended our input to go.
Anyway, I think there could be some interested parties but I suspect you are thinking of some of our friends from Houston and Austin since few made it to Laguna Seca from DFW. I'm sure everyone would love to go but the distance is a factor for many. I'll ask around. Keep up the good work!

Sounds awesome to me. Let's do it!

Although most weekends work for me, here are some dates to throw out that I know I could make:
March 9-11
March 23-25
April 6-8
April 20-22

I will update my website to put a map of the trip and some info on it about the mileage, etc..

Wow! Nice job -- I hereby nominate you as official route mapper of the group. It took me 3 days to get a map set up for the original Coronado drive.

Thanks,
Tanq

My pleasure Tanq and thanks for the map maker honor...

I get construction updates from each state's DOT loaded into my mapping software so I can also tell us if we are going to run into any problems on any trips.

I have been playing around with mapping out a Grand Canyon and Lake Powell excursion for summer. Anyone have a houseboat???

If anyone has ideas on trips let me know, I can check them out and post up a map very quickly.

Late April also works best for me. It's outage time from March 15 to April 18. I know nobody really cares, but that means four to five 12 hour days a week at the nuclear plant. Doesn't leave much time for drives, with all the honey dews around the Gloffer Bed and Breakfast.
