Just saw this on TOV (not saying I believe it)
http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=655584 Any comments. I actually hope it isn't true at least about the next version.
Interesting.

I would be first in line to trade mine in. Here's hope for championship white.
They could change the gear ratio to make a big difference too.
I doubt it will happen though. Especially here in the US.
The sales of the S are not enough to warrant a whole new safety pass through the system for a few thousand cars/year.
I held my breath for the RSX Type-R to come here but even that didn't make it. I remember reading the exact words of the president of Honda of America, the cost of DOT safety certification was too high.

... then below the speculation of the S type R they go on to talk about the S2000 successor which will have less output, weigh the same, have milder suspension and a power foldable hardtop...
No F-ing way. I've definately learned in my 2 years with the car to pay no attention to all the speculation that comes out of the press. But saying the next S will be slower than the current car and be a Miata competitor instead of a Boxter competitor completely invalidates the Type R speculation.

Typical Japanese magazine hype. How many times have we seen things like this, that turn out not to be true? Personally, the only rumor I'm going to believe about the future of the S2000/next S2000 will be the one that comes in a Honda press release.
Sound deadining material? I didn't know we had any. A type-R would be something special and would never be seen on our shores. Honda has hinted at all types of NSX replacements, from hybrid V6 power to F1 inspired V10's and V8's, yet nothing is really officially green-lighted. Honda does one of the best jobs in the industry at keeping their next move a secret.
As for an S replacement, the negatives are similar to the NSX in that they are strictly financial...I read that Honda actually lost money on the NSX when it was in production but they didn't care! It was built in part to comemerate their success in Formula 1 - 5 straight championships. The S is a purists car as well. In the original dealer brochure there is a picture of the BAR F1 and even mention of the S2000 being built for F1 fans through its digital read out and starter button. I don't think Honda will let up so easily on keeping a model within their car line-up that is a pure sports car.
