Default News from Greddy on S2000 turbo kit

so i emailed greddy awhile back about the S2000 turbo kit they are producing and i just got a response back.

From Greddy info clerk:
Thank you for your interest in GReddy
Unfortunately this kit will not be CARB legal at release but we are going to try to get it approved for a CARB # not sure if or when it will happen but as far as release date we are trying to have it out by the summer.

So looks like the people awaiting a CARB turbo kit are gonna be waiting atleast another year since they're "hoping" to release the non-CARB kit by summer. all i have to say is, the kit better be making more than the original 260whp people were talking about if its not CARB legal; or else they won't be selling many...

I actually emailed Greddy when the kit made its debut at SEMA, and they said the hp was 300 hp AT THE CRANK, so you'll be seeing 260-270 whp at most. I asked why were they so conservative, and they said the reason is that they didn't want to sacrifice reliability and daily drivability since the stock CR is pretty high.

This is a nice bolt-on kit for those who want a little more hp out of the s2k without having to constantly worry about all the general hassles about owning a highly-boosted s2k. Just my opinion though.

I'm sure all the Comptech/Vortech supercharger people will proceed to chime in and contribute some disparaging remarks at Greddy.
the main difference between the turbo and the SC is the boost at low RPM

boost at low RPM with high compression is just asking for trouble. Seems like Greddy had to limit boost in order to get around this.

The Comptech/Vortec doesn't put out much boost at idle; it builds up with increasing RPM. Boost at high RPM isn't as much of an issue.

In order to get the power everyone wants, they would need to have the ECU reprogrammed. Since this is not possible, an Emanage or EMS would be required.

Since I'd imagine Greddy wants this to be as inexpensive as possible, I'd guess the 260HP is with the stock ECU I'd imagine they will come out with a version with the Emanage that makes 300-320 or more. I don't think they can do that RELIABLY without a new ECU.

dont most GReddy kits have an emanage unit in there anyway? I know the GReddy kit for the Prelude has one... so I dont see why they wouldn't toss one in for the S2000 kit.
