Default Rear view mirror woes

Well, it came off when driving round the block last night having cleaned the car. I guess I knocked it, although I don't remember doing so,

Can I get the bloody thing back on? Can I f***! I've invented new swear words, coz I used all the ones I knew.

I even went to RAC Windscreens where the guy recknoned the key was the small screw behind the mirror - undo this, refit the clip and spring, slot it back, tighten it up and you're away. He also reckoned this screw has a reverse thread.

Can I undo it? No bloody chance.

Has anyone done this? Is he right? (Not that it matters, as I've chewed the damn screw right up trying!) How much is a new mirror? How far can I fling the old one in a fit of rage?

Cheers all!

I know that when I had my windscreen replaced, the fitter had lots of difficulty fitting the mirror on.

I think he also mentioned that it was a reverse screw.

Surely, it is just the screw that you have to replace, and not the whole mirror, unless the screw is already in the mirror.

Best bet - try any of the breakers listed in FS&W section.

Good Luck.

You have to fiddle the tension a bit using the left handed Fred & the adjuster screw at the other side (remove the plastic cover; it slides off)

Then snap itinto the retainer bracket on the windscreen.

I'd slacken it off so it's wobbly 'til you get the idea, gradually re-tighen it.

It's designed like that so it will snap off in an accident.

I've got a mirror knocking about somewhere, give me shout if you're interested. I'm sure we can come to a suitable arrangement.

This is why we have wing mirrors

Sorry, I'd be exactly the same. Can you not take it in to your local friendly Honda dealer and get them to put it back on?

Thanks, guys. I can't get the damn screw to turn, try as I might, so it's off to Honda tomorrow. If there's no luck there, I'll take you up on the offer, Beardie.

Cheers for the link, AB. There is another world out there - guys who take bits off their car because they can! I'm not one of them, but I'm chuffed they exist!!

Result! Popped down to my local dealer (Amethyst Gloucester) this morning. Jamie, Head Tech, couldn't get the damn thing on either (well, he could get it on, but it wasn't secure - I think I knackered it yesterday), so he organised a new one under warranty! Brilliant!

Then he invited me back into the workshop to see the first Civic Type R they had. Crawled all over it - v. nice - and got an invite to come back and drive it when it's registered.

Now that's what I call service. Outstanding!
