Default 4.44's or 4.77's for hpde's ?

i was using the turn zero gear calculator, and its looks like their isnt a big difference between the stock 4.10 and 4.44 gear. i'm shooting for 5-6 hpde's a year, so i anticipate alot more street driving then tracking. so i want the most acceleration. From the j's racing website, they only recommend 4.44 as the highest for tracking. Do you guys think the 4.77's is a lost cause ?

How much do you like shifting in corners?

ps. How many HPDEs have you done so far? What was it that made you think changing the final drive ratio would be beneficial at all?

4.77s suck on the track. 4.56/7 is as high as you want to go and even then I think you lose more than you gain over 4.44 or even 4.10. I'm planning to dump my 4.77s to go back to 4.10s.

Because I now have a stroked motor and a bit more torque than a stock block, I'm considering losing my 4.57's. I really liked them with my stock motor.

Wow, this is really creepy. I was just contemplating ditching my 4.57's as well.

It's called synergy Sometimes you've got to round the bases to get back to where you started. Shifting gears is a huge penalty especially when you need to do it in a corner.

For me on my new home track I need to make not one but three shifts in turn 5A/B/C, 4th to 3rd going into 5A, down to 2nd between 5A and 5B, back to third between 5B and C and to 4th before exiting 5C all that leading onto the huge back straight and up to the top of 5th @ 120MPH.

On 4.10s it goes like 4th to 3rd into 5A, 3rd to 2nd between A and B, up to 3rd between B and C. That's one less shift right at the beginning of a huge straight and up to the top of 4th @ 125MPH. A major advantage.

At Laguna Seca 4.77s are 3 seconds slower/lap slower than 4.10s. That's me in my car with 4.77s v. me in Rylan's stock street car using the wheels and tires off of my car on the same day. No better comparison IMO. 1:48 vs. 1:51 (in the damp on shaved RA-1s in my own defence).

I'm using 4.57's. I agree. They require you to shift in really bad spots on local tracks. I'm looking to go back to 4:10's as well.

Ry - Didn't realize you were on 4:44.
