another PR lap video
I bought this software called Trackvision which takes the datalogger data and integrates it with video.
Right now the video quality sucks, because the program is using the native XP codecs and they can't read the video my recorder is using. So I have to convert the video in Linux, then put it through this program, which then converts it to WMV format. So it's third-generation, and the digital artifacts are annoying.
But the new version of the program (vaporware?) is supposed to solve these issues by using their own codecs.
Anyway, video stuff aside, here's my fast lap of the day from the 14th (which also happens to be my fastest lap ever at PR).

That's pretty cool with the video overlay. Did you improve your camera mount since the last video? It looks more stable this time.
As for the technical issues, you mentioned Linux for re-encoding the first time, but is the Trackvision software native to Linux or are you re-encoding and then moving to a Windows platform for the Trackvision software? On Windows, you could avoid re-encoding by using Avisynth as a frame server and feeding that into the Trackvision application. You could use Avisynth for deinterlacing as well since whichever application did in that clip didn't do a very good job. If you don't want to go that route, try a lossless codec such as Huffyuv and apply any filters while encoding to this so that the other application doesn't need to (saves on processing time if you're doing multiple passes). If you're doing this all in Linux, there are some native options available or you could run Avisynth via WINE.

Here's the deal: Chasecam encodes in MPEG2 and XP doesn't have an MPEG2 codec. But it does have a DivX (MPEG4) codec.
On Linux I have mplayer/mencoder, which handles almost all the open standards well and does some WMV formats OK. So I used it to convert the MPEG2 to MPEG4 (DivX).
The Trackvision can use the XP codecs to read it in with MPEG4 and save it out with WMV. (For some reason, it couldn't seem to save it out in DivX.)
The new version of Trackvision (which was supposed to be out for months now) is "about to go to Beta" and apparently has a lot more control over the output quality parameters and uses it's own codecs rather than relying on XP to provide them.
Since this is supposed to just be a temporary problem, I've not tried to get new codecs for XP.

Nice video, its too bad the video codecs didn't work out too well, but the data logger display is really neat. Looks like it was a really nice day for tracking too. Now all you need a is a chase camera car.
