Default Idle 2000rpm

having a weird problem, i sometimes come to a stop and its idling about 2000rpm and sometimes its around 500 rpm.

if its at 2000rpm i'll give it a little rev and it'll fall back to 500rpm.

Any suggestions to the problem? i've not got a clue with cars!

I suggest you should look into cleaning your IAC and throttlebody. IAC = idle air control.

I clean mine with wd-40 just as Billman suggested and it worked great. Just take the IAC off (located on the side of the intake manni near to the throttle cable) and spray it with wd-40 into the holes. After putting it back on the intake manni....take the screw-driver handle and tap it a few time....before starting it up. Don't forget to plug back the sensor before starting it.

hey all, i got to sort this problem out now its doing my head in!

thanks for all the reply's i will look into the above

i got out the car and had a look when it was idling high and found if i pushed the following back (in pic) then the rev's returned to normal, its as if its not return to its normal position and getting a bit stuck sometimes, again if i touch the accelerator a tad, the revs will return to norm.

sorry dont know the name of the part!

could i just need to spray WD40 on it or am i barking up the wrong tree?

That is your throttle cable. Maybe your throttle cable is too tight. Try adjusting it. Visit this link

Also like everyone says clean your IAC and throttle body.

i've cleaned both now and its still being arsey!

i took the spring and the metal thingy the throttle cable is attached to off today and it seems a bit batterd, so i think i will replace both for good mesure.

anyone know the part numbers or price of these?

or the names of the parts im looking at?

or have them going spare for any reason?

thanks in advance for any replies!
