Default Question about S2000 clutch fluid

Hello,

According to the Helm manual, clutch fluid is merely Dot 3 or 4 brake fluid.
Would there be any advantage/disadvantage to switching THIS fluid to
something like ATE Super Blue Racing fluid?? How much heat is involved
in this system? There is a bleed screw and instructions about bleeding, so I assume
that air bubbles in this system would be just a unwanted as in the brake system.

This system is subjected to no heat to speak of so there is no advantage to switching to a fluid with a higher boiling point. The system does get minor contamination from moisture and rubber parts so changing the fluid every couple of years may be appropriate, but not critical.

Just make sure the fluid is compatible DEFINITELY Incompatible fluid (like DOT 5) can cause the rubber seals to expand/fail and that gets to be a mess. Rubber can/will absorb solvents/oils to a certain degree and deform over time.

other that that Im sure it wouldnt hurt, but may not be needed. I dont think anyone has really had a problem related to the fluid.

Air is unwanted in the system, you are right.

I will diverge from the other advice a bit and encourage you to change the fluid yearly. I've seen FAR too many master or slave cylinders die because people never changed the fluid.

The Honda fluid looks like honey when new. If it becomes more of a chocolatey color, you should change it. If it is black as ink DEFINITELY change it. You should be able to go about a year or 20k miles fine... as the fluid darkens, that means it's picking up contaminents, and these contaminents will damage the seals over time.

I usually use the same clutch fluid as brake fluid and flush it as often, just so I don't have to worry about it. Right now I'm on Valvoline synthetic which is water-clear. Makes it a little easier to see contamination... when it starts to look like honey, I know it's time to flush.
