Mixing DOT 3 and DOT 4Brake Fluid
Hey everyone
Im planning to replace the fluid inside the clutch reservoir since it's about time. However, I have no plans to bleed the line, just clean and fill the reservoir. I currently have Motul RBF600 Brake Fluid in the reservoir which is a DOT 4 fluid. Is it okay to extract the DOT 4 fluid inside the reservoir using a turkey baster and replace it with Honda DOT 3 brake fluid? If not, can I just fill the reservoir using Honda DOT 4 brake fluid? Thanks in advance

I replaced the OEM Honda fluid both brake and clutch reservoir with ATE yellow (Dot 4). No problems. ATE states that their Dot 4 stuff is miscible with Dot 3.
BTW... I used a syringe to draw out the old fluids. Less spillage, compared to a baster.

It is acceptable to mix DOT 3 and DOT 4 brake fluid, but DOT 4 has somewhat higher boiling points.
But depending on how old your brake fluid is, it would make sense to bleed the system since DOT 3 and DOT 4 absorb moisture over time. Billman has a gravity bleed system that works.
