The service manager at Rick Damelian's Honda just rang about my S. It's in for it's10K service and guess what they found. POROUS BLOCK!!

Looks like I'm getting a new block and engine rebuild. I sure hope they know what they are doing.

Wow, I hope you get good service. By the way does this mean no V-Tec again for 600 miles? Would be a bummah...

Forgive me, but how did they find such a thing? What would be the ramifications?

Hmmm, very interesting. How did they work that one out Wayne, was it using oil?, low on compression? or whatever?

Best of luck with the new motor - I hope you're not off the road for too long whilst they fix it.

Porous block, pretty self explanatory, the block has oil seeping thru the metal. Bad casting I believe. Symptoms? someone else needs to step in here.

Actually the porous blocks we have seen were seeping coolant. The porous head reported by one was seeping oil.

Arron has a lot of pictures of the porous block in his wife

Sorry to hear that AusS2000, hopefully the repair will go smoothly and they'll have you back on the road soon.

Thanks for the sentiments. Much appreciated.

There were no apparent symptoms for this problem. I simply took the car in for it's 10K service and during inspection the technician found a water stain on the right (left when you're leaning over the engine bay) side of the block above the engine mount.

Apparently it is not immediately serious but I should check my coolant, and they will find out from Honda whether they are required to replace the block, the short motor (block and all internals), or the whole engine. Anyway it goes I have to behave for another 1000Kms.

Mind you, they gave me chocolates so all is better now
