Default Cobalt GT Sport pads disintegrate

I put a set of Cobalt GT Sport pads on the car early this year for the autocross season. While we've had hot temps, this isn't a hugely hot area. I ran 8 events with 3 drivers plus a Pro Solo and the front pads were not only about shot, the outer pads had started to disintegrate. Material was missing from maybe 15% of one end of each outer pad.

I was under the impression that pads like this lasted longer than the OEM pads and resisted crumbing better. Is this in any way normal?

Hmmm... this is the second such report. The first concerned the XR2's and is posted here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...c=474893&st=75

I suggest you speak with Andy or Glenn at CobaltFriction and report back. We'd all like to know why this is happening.

my GT Sports didn't crumble, but they only lasted about 13k street miles with about 10 autocrosses.

I have 2-1/2 years, about 23,000 street miles, and probably a couple of hundred autocross runs on a set of Cobalt GT Sport pads, and they're still not dead.

I think they must have had a material change or something...mine have been doing fine after a Dragon, half dozen autoxes and about 10k miles. But a buddy has had nothing but trouble with his...distroyed rotors, terrible dusting that ruined some wheels.

I hope they get their act together by the time I need fresh pads.

The new GT Sports are an entirely different compound. I've used the old ones like you have and never had a problem either.

I have had the original compound Cobalt GT-Sport pads on my car for about 17,000 miles and 300 autocross runs with no problems. I keep thinking they must be about done...

Yeah, my rotors, which were well-worn when I put the pads on, were toast - HUGE step due to wear. Just put new ones on with OEM pads.

The dusting was bad, too, although some of the reports I read seemed to indicate that they weren't that bad. I've spent hours trying to clean my street wheels and now have black corners at all the spokes and a pretty good black layer between the spokes...

I've always run OEM pads but switched this year to try to help out with three drivers. I'm really regretting that decision.
