hi everyone
i currently have my clean and beautiful 1996 300zx black/black NA for sale because my dad wants to buy me another car (just hit 100k on the Z). Z's are my absolute favorite (non-exotic) cars.
i only like 2 seater, RWD tiny cars. in the given price range, this leaves me with the choices of:
-boxster's-HATE them and slow and ugly
-350z's-LOVE them and very powerful
-miata's-HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM and slow, even the turbo
-sky's/solstice's (turbo)-decent power but american and SLOPPY steering! try 1!
-mr2's-ugly & overall YUCK x 10
-tt's-2 bubbly and kinda slow
-s2000's-LIKE, no low-end tq. what-so-ever, but handle better than any of the above
by far
anyway, i was down to the 350z and s2000, and i think i may want a convertible (live in florida). i am not impressed by the power, but am impressed that on a test drive i took a very sharp curve going over 60m.p.h.
my concern is that i am downgrading. i am getting a newer, slightly better handling car than i already have, but will be sacrificing a he*l of a lot of tq. if i get it. i know i can stay above ~6k, but i am afraid i will be mad when i hit it at a lower r.p.m.
i figured i would come to an s2k website to try to get convinced into it! .......and to be convinced that it's an upgrade & not a downgrade from my Z!
THANX! I WELCOME ANY AND ALL OPINIONS!
~tina~
btw-the s2000 i am looking @ right now is a 2002 black/black w/ ~33k 1 owner & clean

this thread won't go well. Expect comments about the "my dad wants to buy me another car". But seriously, what is all that about? My parents never wanted to buy me a car.
Anyway, 350Z has terrible shifter, is a little bit on the large side. Has more torque than the S2000. Sucks down way more gas than the S2000. I've driven both, almost bought the S2000. Also, even the top end 350Z has low rent interior.

The S2000 is a better car in every single aspect than an NA 300Z, period. The one possible exception may be in its forgiveness of driver error, which if daddy is buying your cars for you, you may want to consider...
The torque "issue" is over-hyped, and if you ever feel like you dont have enough torque in this car, you arent driving it right. Regardless, the S is still faster than the NA 300Z, torque or not.
Your dad is DEFINITELY upgrading. But then again, you're on an S2000 board, so what do you expect?

If you're at all worried about the torque you'll be loosing, don't get an S2000. They are very fast in the turns all the time and pretty fast in a straight line. . .if you're in vtec. I love my S2000 because of its dual nature. It doesnt have to be a powerful race car ALL the time. Just when I want it to be.
Whats the price range? Too low for a convertible Z I assume (not that I'd ever recommend one of those ugly things).

my good friend has a very clean 300zx 2
+2, a 1992. it has more low end torque, that's it. It is a 6 cyl larger engine vs. a smaller 4 cyl...to be expected. The S2000 is not about torque.
i would think you might be happy with the Z. it has the low end torque, it is faster than the s most of the time, it has the lineage you might appreciate coming from the ZX. a 4 cyl car will not have the torque you seek.

hey guys-
just to clear-up the 'daddy is buying me a car thing' so u guys can get-off the spoiled brat thing, it is my gift for, after long, hard work, acquiring my master's degree.
the $ from my Z goes toward it. and yes, the roadster 350z's are ugly, which is why i wouldn't get 1 in convertible.
btw, no driver error here. been 2 the tracks and am very good and used 2 rwd. should have pretended i was a guy when i posted i guess!!!!!!!
have n e NA tricks for picking up any low-end tq. on these s2k's?

that's a nice gift. when im done my masters I might treat myself to a new car.
Anyway, not much in the way of NA tricks to getting more low end torque. Going turbo will get you there. However, you can EFFECTIVELY raise your torque by changing to a higher gearing. Search around the forum for more info on that.
Also, no need to pretend you are a guy. There are plenty of guys on here who suck at driving
Also, not sure why someone said the 350Z is faster than the S most of the time. I think the opposite it true. But you need to be a better driver to get the speed outta the S.
