I guess the 2002 must be quite special to get Evo to make change their opinion so markedly!

I'm quite happy with my "half-baked" 2001 though

About time. I get the impression they rather welcome the opportunity to reverse their original crappy assessment. The Boxster is a great car. I love the sound of that flat 6 engine, but for

Don't you just love the fact that they say the Boxster doesn't need leather/sports suspension/17in rims etc. etc..........., but the one we tested had them anyway

How can you truley compare the S2000 with a bog standard Boxster, when the one you are driving is pretty much loaded?!?!?!

Not a bad review apart from that

is this really true about the suspension changes - thinner anti roll bars?

You get the feeling that they are searching to justify their original impression. Porsche without optional extras - what are they thinking about, it's like asking how much petrol costs for a Rolls.

Anyway, if the 02 is so much better, all well and good, I'm waiting for 03 and 04

You need things like leather, air con etc to be able to sell a Boxster - the market's like that.

I actually thought about and looked at a few Boxster S's before going for the S2000. One thing that put me off was I couldn't find a car that wasn't over loaded with extras.

I thought I'd post the link as there's some interest in the UK MY2002 changes. But it's also worth remembering that EVO originally tested the S2000 in France IIRC. AFAIK this is the first articel they've published about driving a UK car on UK roads.

Did you see the 'sports exhaust' optional extra? what a dogs dinner, IMO the standard exhaust looks much nicer. The car they tested was probably close to 40K with all the extras porsche had put on it.

Dont know how these things work but do they basically ask Porsche UK to provide them with a car for the test? if so do they let them know what they are testing it against? if the answers are yes and yes then I guess Porsche have much respect for the S2000 if they felt the need to supply a car with all those mods. Just guessing mind you.

Pretty much all car companies seem to supply the top spec version with all the options etc. Once EVO did get a Boxster (I think it was when the 2.7 came out) that had the standard sized wheels - they prefer the feel/handling on them.

I think it is a compliment the S2000 being compared to the Boxster. But looking at the options, you could almost buy 2 imported S2000s for one high spec Boxster!

Dear God How right you are: this has got to be the least flattering image of a Boxster I've ever seen!
