Super Lap Battle w/ AJ-Racing & Evasive

AJ Racing and Evasive Motorsports were back again this year in the annual Super Lap Battle (previously known as Super Street Time Attack).

Last year, AJ-Racing was able to bring home the 2nd place in the Limited FR class (street registered & Tire Tread wear Rating of 100 & above) with a time of 1:56.773.
AJ-Racing was back again this year to compete in the Limited FR class with the S2000 and the Micro class with the Honda Fit. Evasive Motorsports (also s2ki.com forum sponsor) entered their Evo9 RS in the Limited AWD Class and HunterEz's S2000 in the street tire class. Stinkytofu (Tim K.) and myself shared the driving duties between the four cars with Tim driving the Street Class S2000 and the AJR Turbo Fit. At the end of the day, AJ Racing and Evasive brought three first place finishes and one theird place finish.
Preliminary Results:
1st Place Limited FR: AJ Racing S2000: 1.54 (maxrev)
1st Place Limited AWD: Evasive Motorsports Evo 9: 1:53 (maxrev)
1st Place Micro: AJ Racing Turbo Fit: 2:06 (stinkytofu)
3rd Place Street-Tire Class: HunterEZ / Evasive S2000: 2:00 (Stinkytofu)
AJ Racing S2000: Fastest NA Award
AJR S2000 Details
Major Changes:
- New 2.2L Spoon Block
- Exedy Triple Carbon Clutch with Carbonetics 4.46 FD
- Optimized Nitto NT01 Size: 255/40/17 (we used the 245/45/17 last year)
- J's Front BBK and Rear Ventilate Disk kit
- Re-inforced Front A-Arm Mount and Rear Subframe
AJR sent me the S2000 in advance so I was able to dial-in the handling of the car on HPDE track days before the Super Lap event. Shake down days consisted of measuring the tire temperature / air pressure and testing out different alignment settings. Since the guys at AJR often track the car, it was fairly easy to optimize the car to my handling preference. Ride hight and alignment was optimized before the Super Lap Battle.

In the morning practice sessions, the AJR S2000 was quick right start with the car hitting a constant !:56 laps on a cold tires. We made changes to the aerodynamics of the car which resulted in a neutoral / oversteer stance which I prefer for time attack events. The car never missed a beat and hit a best lap of 1.54 seconds. Our competitor, Porsche 911 (turbo? GT2? MA?) had a incident in the morning which resulted in damage to the car. They rallied back to fix the car but everyone can see that the car was not running right after the damage it suffered in the morning sessions. At the end of the day, our 1:54 lap was good enough to take the 1st place spot in the Limited FR and also set the record for the fastest NA car of the day.

Stinkytofu (Tim K.) piloted HunterEz's (Kel) S2000 in the street-tire class against some tough opponent. His competition included Evo, STI, Supra which were producing well over 400hp each. Tim drove his heart out to lap time of 2:00 flat. I am sure Stinkytofu will comment more on his experiences of the day. I can say that both Tim and Kel worked hard on tire temp/pressure and datalogger to try to break the sub 2:00 Min. mark. It will be a matter of time before a street tire S2000 will break the 2 Min. barrier at BW (CW13 Config.) The winning car for street tire class was an EVO with a time of 1:58. Still... 3rd place finish on a privateer car is not bad!! Go Stinky and HunterEZ!

Since we are all Honda Fans, here are some info on the Micro Class Turbo Fit.

AJR Turbo Fit Details
Major Changes:
- T1R Turbo Kit (6psi) on Stock Block
- Various T1R Suspension Upgrades
- Nitto NT01 (we used Yokohama A048s last yea)
Stinkytofu piloted the turbo-charged Fit against stiff competition. AJR Fit won the class by only a margin of 0.2 seconds. Even though the turbo charged Fit was bit down on power compared to the K20 swapped Fits, the AJR Fit charged the corners like a proper Honda. The Tein Yaris with the supercharger was breathing down on the AJR Fit all day but Tim was able to fend off the competition and take 1st place with a best time of 2:06.

Highlight of the day was the HKS Japan crew shattering the Lap Record in Buttonwillow. The Evo currently holds the lap record in Tsukuba Circuit in Japan. Taniguhi drove the Evo to a best lap time of 1:43. The engineering and the quality that went into the Evo was amazing. I have a feeling that this course record won't be broken for a long time. Just youtube HKS Tsukuba and you will get the idea.

Overall, the S2000 did extremely well with two podium finishes against various turbo charged cars. AJ Racing too home two first place finishes and Evasive Motorsports took home 1st place in the Limited AWD (1.53) and 3rd place on the Street tire class.

I feel that the tuning industry is shifting towards modification dedicated to track days. Its great news for all of us as the parts we use to modify our streetcar can be also be used by racers who only race on the track. Both US / JDM manufactures are developing parts which proves itself on the track.
Results are Up:
I heard both the Cyber Evo and HKS Evo are going to be there. We_shall_see
Nice Carbon twin plate from Exedy. I prefer the Carbonetic, they look very similar, although I haven't driven on both to really compare.
Those solid diff mounts look very uncomfortable
Let us know if you can feel any additional rigidity. Too bad these weren't done independently of the reinforced sub-frame. Now you won't know if the added weight does anything or if it's just the diff mounts you are feeling.
What are the spec changes to the motor?
