Buying advice for S2000
Hi guys,
This is my 1st post so go easy.
I currently drive one of the new Civic Type R's which i bought in December '01. However, my girlfriend is pressuring me into changing it for an S2000. The more research i've done, the more i've warmed to the idea to the point we're at now where i've provisionally sold the CTR.

Hi Chris (another Chris! there's more Chris's than Petes now
)
There will be people along soon to help you out with more knowledge than me on this one. Give it some time. They might be down the pub, at the movies, walking the dog.....
In the meantim, have you looked on the Autotrader website for S2000's? That's where I found mine last year: www.autotrader.co.uk
Good luck; it's a fantastic car.

This turned out to be quite accurate last week when I was trading in my wife's car (NOT an S2000).

1. If its a 'T' plate or has half-leather, its an ex-press car.
2. Check the alloys for corrosion
3. Check to see if the clutch and/or gearbox has been changed/modified - do a search on 'gearbox' for the service alert numbers.
4. Check the tyres are oem's (S2000 is sensitive to tyre choice)
5. Check tyre wear is even (if you buy private, think about a full alignment check)
5. Check for a FSH (a must)
6. Check it its a UK car.
7. Make sure its fitted with an alarm and imobiliser (not standard until 2002)
8. Check the condition of the rear plastic screen.
9. Check the condition of the carpet across the chassis cross-brace.
10. Ask the owner what the running in procedure was (its 5500 rpm max for 600 miles - varied engine speed)
11. Check for stone chips and accident damage (S2000's are in Honda body shops regularly as they catch out the ex-MX5 and hot hatch brigade)
12. Check the satety recall for the seatbelt has been done.
13. Trawl through the posts on here - I did, thats where a lot of the above came from.

If you can wait 4-5 months on awaiting list why don't you import a new one for about 21k or may be a bit less.
It's not that much more than 18.5k you'll get piece of mind and a brand new car that you could sell in a year (if you want) for the same price as you paid.
