Well I decided to do my brakes lines today and ran into a small snag. I've managed to round off the 10mm brass compression fitting where the hose meets the solid line. Don't ask me how just tell me how to get it out now!! SOB!

Thanks

Humm. Using the wrong tools huh? Vise grips and a trip to the auto store for a new nut and the right wrench? If you rounded, conventional tools aren't going to work so well. Wouldn't do that w/o concurrence from others.

Since it's already ruined, just get out the vice grips and squeeze real tight. Or small pipe wrench.

Then get new lines and fittings for the affected parts.

In fact the easiest way may be to follow the lines back to next fitting and remove and replace.

You shouldn't use brass fittings on a brake system. No original equipment brake system would have brass.

And you shouldn't use compression fittings. The conventional brake fitting is inverted flare, with various tapered seat solid fittings depending on manufacturer.

I guess that would account for your absence from the board for most of the day!

The best tool is a slotted six-point box wrench. Of course, that's assuming that you still have six points!

The other thing you might try is one of those Sears Clench Wrenches that "The harder you pull, the tighter it grips":

Ok well the good news is it's still on so I still have brakes. But the real question I guess is what do I do now? The end of the rigid line is flared right? So that means I can't just slip off the old nut and put on a new one? Got any idea what I'm looking at to get back to where I started?
