Default member of the "i got screwed by audi club"

after waiting a year and a half on the list, my number came up...
-to order my audi r8 -

my rep told me that the dealer is required to sell at list price and by getting on his list (deposit does that), i would have a car at list price. in exchange, i would have to agree to sell the car back to them in the first year at my cost (if i decided to sell it). seemed fair to me.

my number came up finally- got the call and went down to spec the car. i told the sales rep to load the car up- nothing i dont want... that is easy!! and then the "oh, by the way"... the car is now $50k over list!!!

yes, i know that the car is rare, but if the dealer did not intend to sell it at list why do they tell people that they will?!!

and by the way, i and everyone like me, will be telling everyone we know.
just does not seem like the best marketing plan i have ever heard of-

sorry to hear that wanabe, sucks to have your hopes shot down by the dealership... When you get your R8 else where stop by the dealership and say, hey found one else where without the 50k markup...

You didn't get screwed by Audi, you got screwed by one of their dealers...and there's little if anything that Audi can do to control dealers' pricing.

Still, sorry to hear your deal fell through!

prob right...
i understand that they have agreements with audi to not sell above list

in fact, the first car that came in they offered to me at $25k over - i asked how they could sell over and they explained that the owner took the car as personal inventory so that he could sell it over.

now we know why they are called " st.ealers "!!

What did you say to the dealer after that? You should contact Audi about it and if anything, tell them exactly what you said here. I would have pounded the sales guy into the ground. Seems to me you had an oral contract (hell, you had money down for it) for the car at list that you could take them to court over. Who

Wow. Sorry to hear that. I could certainly see how excited you were about getting the car, and 18 months is a darn long time to wait. Did you have a sales contract in writing? Even if there is no written sales contract, you may be able to assert equitable remedies (promissory estoppel/detrimental reliance) against the stealership. Do you have any lawyer friends with whom you could discuss the matter. If so, I'd think one of them may be willing to help you out as a favor. I'd just hate to see the scumbags get away with screwing you like that.
