Thumbs up Tein S-Tech's sitting uneven (7days old)

Alright.. I know this may sound stupid, but I had just recently installed my new S-Tech's on my MY05, with no other suspension mods that can effect ride height. Stock wheels, etc..

Since the installation, the rear's seem to be tucked!
BUT, the front is still sitting about 3/8" higher in the front... This can't be due to not cutting the inner rubber bump stop, can it?? That wouldn't make sense??

I had also installed new S-Tech's on another friend's MY05 this last week too, and same issue... I know we've had our springs in for just a week, but c'mon.. I've seen other members on here with JUST S-Tech's, and the drop is GOOD and EVEN on all fours..

I've read about others having problems with the front right sitting too high, one whole side sitting higher than the other, or one corner sitting lower.. etc..

These are the same OE struts on my car, as they were when I bought my car brand new back in Jan. 2006...

I'm thinking that perhaps the reasoning for other having one corner sit higher than another, is possibly from having an accident and having brand new strut or strutS installed as a replacement.... this might possibly be a cause to the one corner sitting higher/lower than the rest..

Anyone have any insight on this???? This car is my daily driver, and sometimes have to roll through downtown Atlanta on business.. and with all the CONSTANT re-paving going on, I'd rather not suffer the bumps, rutts, and jumps going with coilovers! haha and yes, my S is my daily driver...

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks guys!

Best regards,
Tylor W.

Did you preload the suspension on both cars before tightening everything up?

front should sit a tad lower than rear. Is it possible that you might have installed the fronts on the rear? Springs are marked F&R. I would pull the wheels off and just double check.

Of course, I made sure the fronts went to the fronts, and rears went to rears... absolutely. I put the "f's" no the front, and "r's" on the rear..

What do you mean when you say pre-load the suspension prior to tightening everything up???

Help!??

Check the DIY's in the Under The Hood section and they'll have a full description of the procedure.

Basically you're going to need to put the car on jack stands, loosen everything and then get it back to hand-tight. Then raise a jack with a block of wood under the ball joint or the rotor until the car raises off the stand JUST a hair. THEN torque everything down.

Ohhhhhhh, gotcha.. Hmm.. so I've put probably about 300miles on these springs so far, this isn't HORRIBLY unsafe or bad driving it this way, is it?? I will do that this evening.. Thank you much!

What about the top hat allen and nut?? So, everything then, correct???

Should this correct my problem with my uneven ride height?? I appreciate your help much sir!! Thanks!!!

Here's the note from the listing for Eibach springs on Tire Rack's site:

"Please note this installation is very sensitive to bushing "preloading". The suspension components should be tighened after the vehicle's weight is on the tires. Failure to do this will result in a lift."

I think you'll be safe for the day if you are planning on taking care of it tonight. I can't guarantee it will correct your ride height, but it sounds pretty likely that this is your problem.

Gotcha... Hmm, it will be interesting to go home and check this out later tonight..

I still don't understand though how by just torquing things accordingly while at a preloaded-state, can alter ride height so significantly..???

I'm a mechanical engineer, and I can't seem to see how that can justify ride-height....? Maybe it's just a hectic week at the office for me, and I can't think straight... haha, I'm losing my mind. LOL

Thanks again!!!

Preloading the bushings will affect your ride height.
I didn't realize this step was necessary when I installed my Koni shocks.
Drop wasn't significant, but after doing the preloading thing, the car got lowered significantly.
I also don't understand how preloading could affect so much in ride height, buy I experienced it first hand.
Untighten all the bolts and try preload the bushings.
You will see a difference.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
