Default Intermittent Speedometer, Speedo Problem

I know there 4 pages of posts on this topic - but I keep getting:
__________________________________________________ __________________

We're sorry, but something went wrong.
We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly.
__________________________________________________ __________________

when I try to go to the next page - on 3 different computers.

Anyway, some of my symptoms have been described Here(1) and Here(2). No real solutions have been tendered in those threads and all troubleshooting suggested in them has been tried long ago.

I have no wheel/tire mods - so, no Yellow Jacket or similar gadget is wired in.

Here is some more information pertained to my situation.
First, it is intermittent. Sometimes I will go for days without issue. But, this is getting to be rare.
Second - and I think most important, the ECU ALWAYS has the correct speed. This rules out the VSS pickup - even so, I've replaced it anyway.

Wiring has been checked several times (BL/W, Y/BL, etc...). So, I really feel that this is an issue within the cluster itself. The fact that is intermittent makes me think that this may be repairable. I'd just like an idea of where to start. From everything that I've gathered, the cluster is basically the body computer.

What really puzzles me is why speed shows a decrease with acceleration - especially if the issue is truly within the cluster.

BUMP

I could really use some help on this - I've gone as far as I can with what I know...

And I still can't get any more than the first 25 search results on this site.

Thanks

Sounds like you have done a good job at logically diagnosing the problem. Like Sherlock Holmes says: If you eleminate all other possibilities, what remains, no matter how unlikely, must be the answer.

If it is not the VSS, and it is not an issue with the wiring near the ecu and the ecu stores the correct speed (BTW, how did you find that out), then all you have left is the cluster itself.

Not sure enough folks have experienced this problem yet. So you are in the unfortunate position of breaking new ground for the rest of us. Let us know what you find is the fix.

Have you tried shaking the cables on the back of the cluster? What about the wiring to the cruise module ( I think it's separate, maybe not). It sounds like a loose connection. Make sure the grounds by the hood latch handle are tight too.

take a single wire and attach it to the cluster plug VSS wire. Drive it w/your DMM and watch your meter till it acts up to see if your DMM reads differently than what your cluster reads.

TY - I try my best to do, first - read, second - all before asking dumb questions, third...

This is actually real time data - not stored information. This can be view with a portable scan-tool with real time diagnostics. Simply sit it in the passenger seat, and drive. It will give you all of the information that the ECU has. Speed is one of the many parameters reported.

No - not shaken. The connector (with GREAT difficulty) was detached to check continuity. This should have accomplished the same thing.

The actual cruise "computer" is, I believe, part of the cluster. All documentation, including all wiring diagrams that I have pretty much indicate the cluster is the de-facto Body Computer Unit. There are some support modules for cruise that are separate. However, as any issue with cruise relates directly to indicated speed - I think cruise fluctuation is is a symptom, not a cause.

Checked, double-checked, and triple-checked...

I've been having the same problem. I was really bad for a while and then I checked voltage at the cluster plug, which checked out ok, and then when I plugged it back in it worked normal again. It has been working fine since then. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't come back but keep us posted on what you find out with the cluster, I'm still looking for ideas as to what causes this in case mine comes back.
