Default Lotus Elise

I'm going to be selling my S2000 soon. The original plan was to buy a cheap runaround for 6 months and then buy another S2000 in the winter. Supercharge it and that's that!

I've been looking at all of the Lotus threads recently, and started thinking to myself, do I want another S, would I get bored of it, even with a SC?

So, I love the look of the Elise but have a few Q's

My budget for buying this summer would be around

Depends what you are expecting of it I guess.

It will handle and brake better, but the last time I had a straight line encounter with a 111S there was nothing in it (30-130 leptons) Both had a chat about it at the lights afterwards

So if you want something really quick, you might want to go for the R? Or find one with a Honda engine!

I still remember Andy Walsh's disbelief as the Griff 500 and my S2000 (on standard pads at the time) both outbraked my mate's 111S and then Andy's own 111S in the wet from 70mph

4.) Any models/engines (eg K series) to stay clear of?
Yes - K Series. Unfortunately that's all you'll get for your budget.

1.) Do the prices lower significantly in the winter?

2.) I've been looking at all of the different models, is there a vast difference between the 120bhp and 160bhp models?

3.) Is the 111s a good start for Elise ownership?

4.) Any models/engines (eg K series) to stay clear of?

5.) What is servicing like?

6.) Anything else I should know?

Thanks!
1) Not hugely - I pop into my dealership about once very 2 months and they have been doing fairly solid business all year round. They are even a little surprised by it but they reckon the small engine, light body thing plays in their favour in the current climate for people wanting a sports car.

2) About 40bhp but this is noticeable.

4) The 111S is a good start but I doubt you will get one in your budget. The journos currently reckon it's the better all rounder whils tth eR is faster.

5) The HGF isssue on K series is there but then again there are 10 year old Elises running quite happily too.

6) Loads of fun, more kart like than an Elise but not without its comforts too. And they can keep up with Veyrons - I have video proof.

They rate the 111S higher than the 111R?

I don't know, I don't think people appreciate how good the standard S brakes are.

IMO a lot of the upgrading that goes on is unnecessary.

The problem comes when you want to stop quickly several times in a row
