Thumbs down Boot/trunk release failure

My boot release stopped working and thank goodness for this old post that solved this particular problem. There are of course other reasons why the boot release may stop.

Symptoms:
Boot will not open when the key fob or the button in the glovebox was used.

Diagnosis
Using key fob release button produced audible click in the under dash fusebox confirming the remote key signal was being received. Checked the fuse for remote access and confirmed the 15A fuse was OK.

Moved on to the release button in glovebox. Checked the switch and wiring to it for voltage and continuity respectively to confirm power was being received and the switch was OK .

Moved on to boot. Using key manually confirmed the latch worked fine. Disconnecting the lead to the boot solenoid showed no voltage coming down the black and yellow wire that the boot release uses for its signal when the key fob is activated. Found the post from 2004 and discovered the blackand yellow wire looked as if it had been cleanly cut where the wiring looms leavings the boot, spurring of another loom, and is attached to the bulkhead. Kudos to SandyS2K as his prediction that this would occur to others. Seems to be the action of opening and closing the boot does it, perhaps by sawing it against something. Also discovered that boot hinge was similarily damaging the plastic protective wrap for the wiring loom and that another wire, this time black and white, was also developing signs that it would also sever in time.

A few photos for clarity.

The trim pulled back to show the loom running alongside the outside of the boot hinge (and therefore partially hidden in this shot) and towards the bulkhead.

The severed wire. At least it happened somewhere accessible otherwise

Guys, I'm looking at Man's picture. Is the broken wires he is referring to located in the ribbed wire trunking (thick black wiring at the bottom of the picture)?

Thus i need to open this trunking up?

Cheers

Yep, that's right.

I disconnected it from the release latch, hence why the cable is lying on the boot floor.
