On the S2000, each body part has a sticker with the VIN #. If you replace a body part, what are the ramifications of moving the sticker? Does any one know if the vin is engraved in the part? Not all the parts are metal. Would this be illegal to move the tags? Can the tags be removed and reapplied? Lets hear from some of you in the legal and bodyshop fields. Has anyone done it??

I think those stickers are "tamper proof".

I havent had a need to remove the vin# stickers from my car yet. I doubt its illegal, although for resale its best to keep them on.

PS dont tell anyone, but I took that sticker off my mattress, now thats illegal

Charlie,

I happen to be on the secret mattress police force (SMPF). I'm going to have to bring you in for this one, that's a capitol offense.

Be aware that on many of the replacement body parts the VIN location is different than the factory part VIN location. That would still give away that it is a replacement part.

I don't know if it's legal, but it's certainly not ethical. Someone looking for a vehicle on which all the numbers match is relying on the accuracy and truth in the information the seller provides.

Making someone believe that a replacement part is the original is tantamount to lying. If I recall the golden rule accurately, I wouldn't want this done to me, so maybe I shouldn't do it to others.

Just think, in twenty or 30 years when this car is a classic (hopefully), you'll be able to say, "all numbers match."

Can anyone tell me where the VIN tags are on the AP1? I am asking because I am in the market for a used AP1 and would like to make sure it is all original before purchasing it. Where are the VIN tags on the fenders, doors, hood, trunck etc?

Thanks in advance!

Watch out when doing wierd stuff like that in Utah. One guy posted on here that he had replaced his bumper with an older one or something with no vin or a different vin and he was summoned for purchasing stolen goods or something like that just b/c the damn part didn't match. I'm pretty sure you're safe everywhere else though.
