Currently under SCCA rules there is NO CLASS for the S2K on street tires, until now.

This year we broke the rules and ran street tires all season in BSP, the rules bent and now we want to change them. We are petitioning our local region to adopt STU2, which would be a new street tire class that includes the S2000. There are many other regional clubs considering this new class, a few might even be running it at this point.

What are your thoughts guys and gals, do you think we can get enough support for a street tire S2K class? Is this something that would interest you?

 

I would love a Street Tire Class for the S2000. I'm no Solo expert, but it would make things more competitive for those that aren't running R comps.

 

I'm all for it. I'm still confused why any of the 'stock' classes with SCCA permits full race rubber.


but ... i'm just going to sit back and watch the bantering of which tires are considered 'street tires' though. I've seen so many posts and articles about how so many street/DOT approved tires are r-comps with just some grooves in them. So ... that process should be interesting to watch

 

According to the Philadelphia Region SCCA who has been running STU2 for some time now...

STU2 is a regional class administered by Doug Riordan that will be superseded should the SCCA decide to implement an identical or similar class. It is intended to attract popular 2-seat, 2+2, and 4-seat cars that are natural fits for STU, but are excluded. STU2 follows the STU rule set. This class extends the Street Touring concept to appropriate cars that are inelgible for STS2 and not classed in Super Stock (i.e. appropriate cars from AS, BS, and CS are the target participants). See the sample inclusion list below. Exclusion list: Any car currently classed in Super Stock and non-stock eligible cars. For 2008 PAX for STU2 will be .845. Drivers in STU2 will not be eligible for the Driver of the Year (DOY) award in the class' first year of existence as it is an experimental regional class. Moreover STU2's PAX will be reevaluated in the middle of season and adjusted if deemed necessary.

so when you say street tires you mean tread rating of 140 or higher???

 

I would be in for sure. I'm loving autocrossing

 

it would allow me, as a po' boy, to be more competitive, I think.

I don't know squat about the classes and what mods are allowed, but I know my intake puts me in some modified street class or something. Problem is, I have no sways, etc.

I'd enjoy a street tire class where I might be a little more competitive at my low skill level!

Tire size limited to a 275 width on a 2wd car & 245 on a 4wd at 140 tread wear or higher.

 

Rene, Yes all rules follow the normal ST SCCA class rules. 140 Treadwear or higher, and the largest size tire you can run on a 2wd car is 275 the largest size on a 4wd is 245.
