Our good friend and fellow enthusiast, Travis (Janet&Travis), has died this morning, succumbing to the ravages of cancer that he has dealt with so bravely these past months, he was 57. I want you all to know that I feel blessed to have known him, worked and played with him.
I first got to know Travis as he and I joined with 3 other buds to form a monday night football group that has met for most every game the past 23 years. The five of us and our wives have had many happy events and a few sad ones in those years. Two are now gone. Travis' son Wes and my son Andrew were in the same class and so Travis and I have been involved in many of their activities and interests. He & I took turns at different times as scoutmaster of their troop that has taken us to the canadian boundary waters, canoeing, to the keys of Florida, snorkeling, to just about any campground in three states. We had a blast!
There will be a memorial service for Travis, Monday, January 19th at 2:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 5th & Dewey, Bartlesville. Donations in his memory can be made to the scholarship he established for deserving 2nd year college students through his church. That was Trav, always thinking of others.
This is so sad.
I only met him once on one of the drives we had! He was a really nice person from what i could tell. I am glad i got to meet him.
RIP Travis!!!
I wish I could have spent more time with him. Everytime I saw him, he was always smiling, and passed that smile onto everybody he encountered. RIP Travis. Peace be with Janet.
I have nothing but excellent memories of Travis on our trips. He was 'tired' in 2006 when I first met him, but still happy and positive. I looked through a few previously posted pictures and found the follwing:
RIP Travis. We'll all miss you!

I've got an 8x10 of this pic posted in my office (No kidding!)
We only had the opportunity to meet Travis & Janet last March on our first drive with the group (starting at Bob Hurley's & ending up at Dirty Bird's) so didn't know them well but our thoughts and prayers are with their family & friends.
In the meantime, NFRs have to stick together! We'd like to think it'd be comforting to see some "S"s parked outside during the services since that was at least one of Travis' passions so we'll try to make it up on Monday.
I met him a couple times and he was extremely nice. really sad to see this happen. I lost my grandpa 2 weeks ago and my girlfriend's great grandma passed away as well so I don't think I can do another funeral.
:-( wow i have lost 3 friends in like 30 days.. anyways Man ill miss that guy.. Good spirit really good spirit.... I know alot of people with s2ks very few of them do i actually remember their names. Some stand out more than others. Travis was one of those who did. Just one of those people that were good to be around... contagious spirit, good character even when sick. I'm so sorry to hear this Janet my condolences to you and you family.
Wow, When I met him in November he didnt seem that bad. It blows my mind how quickly cancer can take someone. Both Janet and Travis are wonderful. Such a horrible loss. He is in a better place now though. I will bring my S to the service.
