Default 2009 Detroit Area Polar Bear Drive

Some of the 2008 Polar Bears are now without an S2000, but because there was some interest from other UMW-ers I'll try again to organize a Polar Bear Drive this year.

Date: Sunday, February 22, 2009, 11:30 AM. The rain date is the following Sunday, March 1, 2009, 11:30 AM. When I say rain, I mean rain, or extremely icy conditions. If it snows, Polar Bears are expected to do as Polar Bears do.

The Polar Bear Drive is a meet-and-drive for those willing to drive top-down on some of Michigan's most scenic winter roads. In 2008, the drive was up and down Hines Drive (see https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=567445).

This year, I have plotted a course from Ann Arbor to Hell and back. I can't think of a better destination for Polar Bears than Hell when it's frozen over. It's an hour each way, and there's a restaurant in Hell. There's also a shorter drive for those who get cold easily.

Please PM or respond if you have any interest. I'll drum up whatever interest I can find elsewhere. It may not be all S2000s.

If you have a plastic rear window and never put the top down before in freezing weather, be aware that there is a risk that window will crack. I am, of course, not responsible for that, or anything else unfortunate that might befall you.

Uhh, if there's no snow or ice on the ground, I'll take my S out of hibernation and come -- I don't mind the cold, but the S is not wearing winter rubber. Otherwise, can I bring my winter beater with windows and sunroof open???

I may be game for this as well. If it's "nice" out I'll get the S out, otherwise it'll be a DD for me like Kamron.

I would totally go if it wasn't so far. Sounds like we need a Chicago-based run.

Due to the recent events involving Laurens (see S2000 talk for explanation), I'd like to bump the thread and see if we can get this going again.

I'm in, in the S, regardless of weather.

This is a Google Map of the route I scouted in the summer: http://tinyurl.com/d87hat
