Default Roof pulling/tearing - advice appreciated

Hi guys. I've had my S2000 for nearly a year now and love the car to bits, but I have noticed that the roof is starting to tear a little bit on the driver's side at the bottom. I have seen this problem on other S2000's and I am wondering if there are any solutions.

The passenger side looks perfect, but the driver's side looks as though it is being stretched, and possibly fitted incorrectly, hence the extra tension which is causing the stretch - or is it the bit closer to the front of the car which is doing the "pulling" - if so can I do anyting about that? Here are the two sides to compare directly:

Driver's side:

Passenger side:

Does anyone know if it is possible to reposition how the roof is fitted, so that it is not "pulling" on the drivers side, and any reputable company who would be able to do this? Eventually I will be happy to replace the roof, but it is in excellent condition otherwise so I would like to prolong the life of the existing roof if possible.

It appears to stretch a little bit more each time the roof is lowered and then raised.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Kev

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the above, and whether I can do anything to prolong the life of my roof?

This is the same as my roof down to a tee, part from mine is alittle worse, passenger side is perfect and drivers side in the same place is tearing and not sure what to do to prevent it getting any worse

I know it's a shame because apart from that the roof is in very good condition, so I would like to be able to somehow prevent this "tearing" from getting worse? I am hoping there is a way, or a place that could re-fit it and therefore avoid the expense of a whole new roof prematurely?

The problem is, the nicer weather is approaching and I want to get the roof down more, but each time I do so, the tear gets a little bit worse

If the roof is tight at that point it is prob. due to the way it was centralised when fitted.

It is possible to loosen the bolts that clamp the roof in place near the drip channel at the bottom of the roof-accessible from inside the car behind the roll hoops area after removing some trim. Not easy though.

If you look in the FAQ you will find a link to download a w/shop manual.
Have a look through that.

Many thanks for the link and the description about what the problem is likely to be.

The problem is I'm not really any good at the DIY stuff, and ideally was hoping I'd be able to take it somewhere to have a look at but I can imagine I'd get stung heavily by labour charges...

Well I know my roof was refitted a couple of years back by the local Honda dealer when it had the rear screen replaced, so I'm guessing they didn't put it back on perfectly / centralise it correctly when they did that...

I've just realised that The Hood Guys in Birmingham are about 60 miles from me, so I will probably contact them and see if they can help. Not sure if they offer any sort of service for refitting an existing hood, but I will find out and see how cost effective it would be in comparison to a new roof.
