Talking my Mase Engineering turbo build

what's up guys, I've mentioned it in a couple of posts but I'll be getting Mase's first AP2 turbo kit in about a month. he's made a RHD turbo kit for a guy in england and he's just finishing up the design for LHD S2000's. once the kit is ready I'm going up to his shop and they'll install and tune it. since it's the first AP2 kit they'll be double checking fitment and all that kinda stuff. plus we'll play around with both the GT30R and GT35R turbos so they can build some good base maps for the kit. in the end I'll be able to show some dyno's of both turbos on the same car, same kit, at the same boost. should be cool to play with and be helpful for anyone looking for good GT30R and GT35R comparisons on the S2000.

his kit is pretty unique in the fact that it's a tubular manifold but the only modifications that need to be done to the engine bay are to turn the heater hose so it's not over the manifold, and remove the factory header heat shield which gets replaced by his. that's it, no moving a/c lines, battery, or oil filter, so it's a pretty straight forward install. I'll post info in here on the kit and the build as things happen, should be fun

here's the RHD kit, the LHD will pretty much look the same. they just have to design the manifold and downpipe differently to fit around the LHD components. he mentioned the other day that the downpipe was pretty much the only thing left on the LHD kits.

edit: a couple of people have asked about the price of the kit, guess I should have mentioned that in the original post Mase said the price of the kit is $"very good" and that includes everything mentioned in the link below. since that includes the AEM EMS and all the fuel delivery basically add a clutch and exhaust and you're done. also you're getting his AEM tune and not AEM's crappy startup tune, that's money saved right there. at the very least if you don't keep his tune you can start it up and drive to your local tuner without worrying about anything. you can also get the kit with different components, ie GT35R, 1000cc injectors, no engine management if you've already got that, whatever. you'll have to talk to him about those price differences though since I don't know.

edit: sorry the price isn't finalized, took it out for now.

ordered my clutch today for the car. inlinepro has a sick special going on competition clutch's clutch and flywheel setup. for $695 I got the clutch and flywheel, if anyone else is looking for a clutch for their S give them a call while the sale is still going on. the kit might even come in this week, if so I'll install it this weekend. it's their stage 4 setup, most holding power before it's not comfortably streetable anymore. Chris at inlinepro said he drives on this clutch everyday and it's pretty good for a puck.

got my my AEM EMS 1052U off the forums here and it should also be in this week. that'll be fun to put in just to not have to wait until 6000 for VTEC anymore already have my two serial gauges installed from my old CRX, just need something to plug them in to

well that's it for now, I'll post more details as I go along, thanks for looking.

Please keep this thread updated, I am VERY interested in how this turns out. I've seen that RHD UK car in person, and the quality and workmanship of the kit is superb.

for sure, I didn't know about the kit until I met Mase when he tuned Camuman's S2000. I was asking him about turbo kits and he mentioned his would be done soon. checked out his site and I love the kit and how it's set up.

now that the kit is close to production ready I'll post the info in here so people can find more info on the kit. then they can see if it's something they like out of the different options out there. I know I've been looking at turbo kits since I got my S and any good info is nice to find.

I love the AEM and all it's features, I'll probably end up setting up boost by gear and traction control

Damn it! Now I am going to have to change kits!

I was wondering when this thing was going to come out. I spoke with Mase about it over a year ago (when Phil's car was still over there) when he tuned my VAFCII. He mentioned a LHD kit, but wanted to be the first on the block with a RHD one, so that one came first.

Any ETA on a production run? Price estimate? Cheaper than Full-Race, I hope... That would corner the tubular manifold market, IMO, if it came in less than InlinePro and Full-Race's setups.

not sure when he's gonna be ready to start to pump out kits, he'll be in town this Friday, I'll ask him when I see him in person. price is $"very good" for the kit with everything listed in the link. since that includes the AEM, fuel pump, and injectors, to me that's an awesome price when compared to other tubular manifold kits. full race for example and you're at about $8000 once you get the ecu and fuel delivery. full-race is a great kit and everyone who has them loves them, you just pay for it

edit: sorry the price isn't finalized, took it out for now.

Rich,

I take it the smaller GT30 would be better for the 400whp setup? Would like to know what psi this kit will make in the standard form. I assume 12psi? There is a dyno graph showing 473hp. What psi was this at, and was it on Phils car before or after the Laskey build? Is the downpipe going to be a direct bolt on and go to any cat or test pipe? Hopefully so.

I have emailed Mase and I am looking forward to getting this kit shortly
