Default Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror

There is an Auto Dimming rear view mirror on the market that also incorporates a compass and outside temp gauge for $250. My question concerns mounting it on an S2000. Has anybody installed one? The manufacturer doesn't know what a S2000 is but they have a mounting for the Accord. Does the Accord mirror mount similarly to the S2000? They have a bracket that you glue to the W/S but then you have to remove the existing mount from the W/S without breaking the W/S. How hard is that?

Anybody have any answers?

mirror replacement is on page 20-22 of the service manual, but it does not talk about the mounting of the "lug" to the windshield. i wonder if the new mirror might attach to the lug that is on the car.

If someone gets it to work, let me know. I'm interested in this mod as well!

I had this in my TL, very cool

The glass didn't have that strange double-vision effect that dual-position mirrors have. Worked great. Funny thing, it made all the cars behind you look like they have bluish lights.

Once you put it on, you'll want side mirrors that dim too!

Gentex sells a couple mirrors through a distributor, Mito Corporatation (http://www.mitocorp.com/). According to Mito - they will supply you with the installation pieces you would need. There is a $99 mirror and a $250 mirror. The $250 comes with compass and temperature readings.

$150 for a temp gauge and compass is pretty weak. Since I drive my car top down most of the time and I live in Phoenix I know it is just freaking hot. I don't need to know if it gets hotter or cooler. I can feel it. My SUV has the temperature and it always gives misreadings too.

I am probably going to install the less expensive mirror soon.

Destiny2002 - my SUV side mirrors dim, but I was told they are greenish (I am color blind) - maybe a different manufacturer. Awesome feature.

I had a small problem with the 99.00 mirror, it seems to vibrate more than the standard mirror. You have to be sure to seat it in the button properly or it will vibrate even more.

I had my window replaced after a rock incident and when I tried to adjust the mirror a chunk of glass came off attached to the mirror button. The glass company was convinced that I was trying to remove the mirror mounting button. I was just adjusting it with a felt pad on top of the mirror to stop the vibrations. I could'nt believe the glass seperated with the small force applied.

I think the mirror is great, I currently have it off and am deciding if I should put it back on, since my insurance company and glass compnay have refused to replace another windshield if it is from damage from the aftermarket mirror. JUST A WARNING... You may break your windshield if you do this mod and the glass company may not warranty your glass or put the aftermarket mirror on in the case of a windshield replacement.

Thanks for the great write-up Hecash! i , too, had been contemplating replacing my rear view mirror, as mine does not line up when I change form day to night, so i am constantly readjusting it if I drive at night. The install sounds easy enough, though time consuming. Thanks again for sharing the fruits of your labor!
