Default need your advice...

I'm still waiting for the arrival of my car and trying to be as patient as possible. My car was built on May 31st and assigned to the dealer on June 18th with no ship date yet. I have already completed my paperwork, including financials, traded in my old car (01 S2000) and all the technicalities of the deal. Just waiting for it to come. They also informed me that Honda of Japan is on "Summer Break" for two weeks from July 1st through July 14th. They said that the soonest it would ship is July 15th, and hopefully it'll be delivered in early August! WTF!

Another 02 Grand Prix White was built on May 24th (exactly one week before mine) and was just delivered to one of my local dealers today.

Again mine was built seven days after it. How can there be no ship date yet? Is this a sign that there may be a potential problem with the car? Or am I being paranoid?

I tried to get my dealer to attempt a dealer trade for the other 02 GP White in town but they refused citing that they didn't have a S2000 to trade with and that they don't trade with that other dealership for whatever reason.

Then I demanded my money and my old car back so I could take my business to the other dealer that has the 02 GP White in stock, but was denied that as well. They cited that the deal cannot be undone, since I signed everything already and they already did the payoff for my old car.

Anyone have any advice? I feel like my dealer is jerking me around now and I'm feud up.

Sounds fishy to me.

Do you have your vin # that's been assigned to your car?

Yes I have the VIN. What gets me is that the General Sales Manager told me that Honda of Japan is completely closed for the next two weeks on their summer break... An ENTIRE corporation on vacation? Com'on I wasn't born yesterday.

If they say the deal cannot be undone, what are they willing to do for you if they cannot deliver a car with that VIN# by August? I don't know if Honda really close the plant down for 2 weeks, but that is not beyond believe. I know that does happen, even in the states. I have a friend that worked for McD (the aircraft company that was bought by Boeing) plant that close down 2 weeks every Xmas and newyear.

I can't speak for Honda, but the GM plant in town has 2 weeks of shutdown every year. You can tell when it happens...every drive-thru bank line is bumper to bumper, and then every bar in town is elbow to elbow.

Good luck getting your S.

I wish I or someone can call Honda of Japan to verify all this info but of course, the dealer can't do that.

Sorry to hear of the delay. The downside is that the dealer has your old car and you signed paperwork on the new car deal. Since your car has been paid off it sounds like it would be difficult to undo the deal unless you could buy your old car back. The upside is that you have a brand new car coming in. My suggestion is to treat this as a test of character and negotiating skills and work as well as you can with the dealer. Ask them to figure out a way to get the other white car to make you a happy customer. Visit your salesperson and talk with the sales manager when it isn't too busy (try mornings) and be firm and polite. If this doesn't work, be patient. HTH.

How come you had to give them your old car already? When I ordered mine, I gave them a $1K deposit, I kept my old car until the S arrived (tried to sell it for top dollar and couldn't), and traded it in the day my S arrived. I drove in with the old car and drove out in the S.

MAV if I were you I would call around if any other dealer has the color you want just get it from that dealer, I myself could not wait around when I bought mine. I'm sure if you call up dealers there is someone in Florida that has it.
