Automobile Mag. Aug 2002 letters to the editor
Don't know if this has been posted yet, but I picked up Automobile magazine Wednesday for the train ride home. In the letters section there was a letter from a miata owner who attended S2KCA's Laguna Secca event.
The letter writer claims that in his run groups he passed many S2K's and was never passed himself. He then extrapolates that his miata was generally quicker around the track then the s2000's. He does say something to the effect that it may have been due to discrepancies in driver abilities.
IMO if the guy took park in the event and in fact was quicker then the s2k's in his run group, it still doesn't allow him to claim that the miata was a faster track car. I also have a problem with him taking part in an S2000 enthusiast's event then going on to pan the car in a letter to the editor, pretty low class.
So how about it, who knows this guy? Was he running on R-Compound tires? Was he in fact faster then everyone in his run groups? Does anyone have video or pictures of him getting passed by an s2k.
-- And, again IMHO, if you read the letter and then decide that you want to rip off a letter to the editor in response, please be careful what you say or even post it here for review first.

Why did it take this long for the letter to be printed? Does it take like 6 months from when you send a letter til the mag prints it normally? I don't remember a "super fast" Miata at that event, and I know I wasn't passed by one, but there were a lot of first time track people at that event in S2K's. If this guy was running in the slow group it's possible he was faster than many of them if he is an experienced track guy. In the fastest group I doubt he would have been passing many, if any, of the S2K's there that day.
I went to NoProblemRaceway near where I live.
There was a Miata that wsbeing prepped for Competition.
I passed the Miata and had no track experience whatsoever.
That just goes to show that I am the best driver in the world.
Seriously though, the power advantage is so great that the Miata would have to handle like a Formula car to pull this off,
or bad S2000 drivers.

I thought the point of Laguna Seca was more as a driver's education thing and not a racing situation. I'm sure he neglected to include that info in his letter.
Mindcore, I think his name was Moe Ronn.
