Default What is your OIL CONSUMPTION rate?-

I can find little info on what should be considered as normal engine oil consumption in the S2000- and I've got no doubt that you guys are the real experts. I bought my 2001 with 25K miles on it and the original owner ckaimed it used none between changes. I switched to Mobile 1 10W-30 right away(the car had not seen synthetic oil before.) and I'm about a quart low after 1500 miles of moderately hard driving. The oil appears very clean. What kind of consumption vs. driving style or consumption vs. oil type have you all seen?

If this topic has been beaten to death already just say so and I'll delete the thread and dig deeper in the forums.

Averaging 1 qt per 2000 miles, odometer is 3000 miles now.

1 Litre per 2500kms here.

I just had my first oil change so hopefully that will go down.

Mine uses no oil whatsoever after an oil change for about 1,000 miles. Thereafter it starts to use oil progressively faster as the miles pile up until it's using a quart per thouand between 2,500 and 3,500. Haven't tried synthetics yet as I've never used them. I think changing the oil often is the way to go.

I use about 1 qt of oil between oil changes that are done every 5k miles. I've been using Mobil 1 synthetic oil since 10k miles and the car now has 31k miles on the odometer.

I've learned that sometimes oil "loss" can be due to checking the oil under different conditions. For a proper reading, make sure that the engine is warm, the oil has been allowed to drain back down for at least several minutes and the car is level. I prefer to check my oil in the garage 5-10 minutes after coming home to keep everything as consistent as possible.

Your oil usage is higher than average, but not unusual if you've driven the car hard. This topic has been discussed a lot, but since the search engine is down, we'll cut you some slack .

At 30,000 miles, mine uses none between 5000 mile oil changes unless there is a track day in there.

I've added maybe a third of a quart at 1,800 miles, and none since then (up to 2,300 miles now). Just checked last night and all was well...

8000 miles now and it's been about 1 qt every 4000 miles.

I run synthetic with 9800 miles and I do not notice that my car uses any. No hard driving at all.

That's the answer to avoiding oil consumption right there. Unfortunately, I put the car through it's paces and have to add a quart here and there, but it's ok - that's what it was intended for.
