What is your OIL CONSUMPTION rate?-
It's beginning to sound like the S2K may have one of those engines that is designed to burn some oil under severe operating conditions. I do spend quite a bit of time in the max torque(high BMEP) region- but tend to shift in the 7.5-8K zone. Probably spend 90% of my time between 4500-6000 RPM's. That's what I ment in the original post when I said moderatly hard driving. Seeing an oil burn of 1 qt/1500 miles may be normal? Car runs fine and I never see any smoke. If you run your finger inside the tailpipe, you get a thin black sooty coating.
I wish the service manual had more info on such items. I paid $80 for it and expected a lot more about how the thing works. It turns out to be strictly a how-to-remove/replace it type of thing-

It's funny, I drive my car moderately to extremely hard at times and have not burned oil ever. Granted, I changed my conventional oil every 1k miles (after the initial 3.5k burn in oil change) up to 9k miles and after that I've been running synthetic, plan to change it at about 12k. Still running really hard, and surprisingly not a single ounce.
Honestly, if you're burning ANY oil after your break in oil is changed, I'd take it to the dealership and have them check it out. Burning oil on a brand new engine is not something I'd be ok with...

I can find little info on what should be considered as normal engine oil consumption in the S2000- and I've got no doubt that you guys are the real experts. I bought my 2001 with 25K miles on it and the original owner ckaimed it used none between changes. I switched to Mobile 1 10W-30 right away(the car had not seen synthetic oil before.) and I'm about a quart low after 1500 miles of moderately hard driving. The oil appears very clean. What kind of consumption vs. driving style or consumption vs. oil type have you all seen?
If this topic has been beaten to death already just say so and I'll delete the thread and dig deeper in the forums.

After actually talking, meeting and hanging out with guys who do drive hard (i know for a fact since i have driven with them) they all (including myself burn a little oil). Burning a quart ever 3-5k miles is nothing to worry about.
how far down the little xs do you go b4 adding oil? i'm about midway down now. i'm putting it off because the last time it was a pain to add a little at a time to nudge my way to the top.

I broke my engine in on Mobil 1 and I use zero oil between 2000 mile oil changes. While I don't abuse my engine, I do drive it hard with lots of VTEC. I use Mobil 1 exclusively, have for years on many performance cars and have never had a failure due to oil.
